I love watching this site and others ref the Audi vs BMW argument.
Ive driven the new F10 M5 on a track session in germany, organised for me and a few other enthusiast in order to promote the new model. I also own a 2007 E61 M5. I also owned, for 3 years a C5 RS6 which spent much of its time on here and now belongs to an SRS member. Ive also had the pleasure of driving an R8 on a few track days, and also a C6 RS6 on a track day. Ive had the use of a B7 RS4 over a long weekend along with an E92 M3 as a conmparison car.
My view (educated by experience) on this Audi RS vs BMW //M brake argument is thus:
The brakes on my C5 were ok for regular road use, but were dog <beep> at anything beyond a couple of consecutive hard braking sessions. Nobody who has driven a C5 RS6 can deny that.
The R8 was pretty good given they were a standard set up. I could trust them 99% of the time to do as they were told.
The C6 RS6 has chocolate brakes like the C5 once you get them hot but i must admit at normal road stuff they are very very good.
The B7 RS4 is also ok, but they do fade much like the C5's set up.
The M3 is very good, if not a bit rumbly on the road. On a hard session they do seem to work better than the B7 RS4 but at they same time they do get a little faded when you are realy working them.
My E61 M5 is actually very good in comparison to the C5 RS6 and ive had very few occasions where ive had to pump the pedal to get friction. Sure they do fade at the upper temp ranges but it does weigh circa 2 tonnes.
The F10 has brakes that are even better than the E60/1. Much more crisp, precise and you dont feel you are losing any of your brake performance when giving it some serious stick.
Dont knock em til youve driven em.
