Great news you have your car back Andy, and the tracker system worked. Did they catch any of the gang with the car or are they still at large?

Sorry to hear you are contemplating selling the car due to this inccident, it's a serious issue that I've had in the back of mind ever since I bought my car regards it's desirability to the criminal underworld and the unwanted attention it may receive. In reality there is little or nothing that can be done if someone has set there mind on taking it off you in a violent manner, the best course of action is to just give it to them.

Me personally, I've worked far too long and hard to get where I am and have what I have to let bastards like that dictate to me the life style I must lead.

I find this completely and utterly amazing. What a shocking post to read. I feel gutted for you. However, like all the others say at least you are ok.

6.30 in the evening not exactly a quiet time to steal a car and make a fast get away. In one sense they seem clever enough to get round the security but stupid enough to steal it at that time etc etc . - What's going on?

What's puzzling me now is how did they manage to start the car? I think an email to Audi Uk customer services is in order to establish how this can be done.

Like simple1 says, what is all the fax to Germany procedure when you have to have the keys reprogrammed etc. about if the wallet key will do? Hhmm I'll need to have a go with it.

How many folks has this happened to? I vaguely remember one member saying something about an attempted house break-in where he reckoned they were after his RS4 keys. I think the dogs stopped them?

As an original owner I have not received this letter - how common is it? or are some of us being picked out?

To all. I can confirm that my plastic wallet key does start my car. I made sure that the switch blade key was inside my house at the time to make sure there was no information being transmitted to the car.

Thats correct, it should open drivers door and start ignition, it will not open passengers door, glove box or boot, not to sure wether it opens the petrol flap when you open the drivers door with it or not??

Hi Andy

I'm new to the forum and i'm horrified at what's happened to you. I don't want to start a dispute with other forum users (honestly), but how many RS4 owners have a wife and kids here!!! My RS4 is not used every day and I sometimes take another vehicle away to work with me, I certainly don't want 4/5 Dudes appearing at my door when I ain't in!!!

Just away to look at more security options (not just car)

Plastic key

I thought the plastic key also had a transponder chip for the immobiliser, hence there's nothing surprising about it being able to start the car. At least that's what the dealer told me when I questioned the security aspect.

I've not needed to have a set of keys reprogrammed so can't vouch for whether the plastic one also had to be reprogrammed (which I guess would be conclusive proof that it has the immobiliser chip).

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Cheers, Richard.

sorry to hear of your woes....

I had a t4 transporter van for windsurfing with a bed in it.......I was asleep in south france when I was woken to a loud thud.....yes they were pulling the locks with me inside........I really cr*ped myself but thankfully they were very surprised by the six foot red worm (me in sleepingbag!) and ran off.........now I have a six cell maglight and a can of cs spray with blue dye to welcome any unwanted visitors.

cheers

nik

Yep, the wallet key has a transponder and has to be coded to the car just like the flip keys.

It must be different to the normal Audi wallet keys then as normally they don't have a transponder. Once you open the door you only have 15-30 secs (I think it varies on model) to get the ignition on otherwise the alarm is activated and the imboliser stays in place.

Thats terrible news mate, I hope car is not too violated when you get it back.......

Just a thought to be carefull about what you put in your profile, we are essentially a map of where all the Audi RS models are in the UK.. :kissmyrings:

Whilst scarey I agree we cannot let this kind of SCUM :piss: dictate what we own - as we have all worked f**king hard to get it...

My wife drives mine most of the time and I always tell her to lock the doors and if stopped get out son and give them the keys, it is only a car.. :blackrs4:

Glad your safe though..

WANKERS

Tom

Yes, that's what I thought Scotty but I had a fresh wallet key last week and the dealer insisted on coding all three keys.

Thank God you are OK Andy!
The plastic key has a transponder as it can be seen on the Xray I took. (perks of being a radiologist)

Twas me old bean, I'd had my avus one a month or 2 when it happened, my 8 week old pup woke me up. House was ransacked, but nothing apart from me mobile was taken. All coats and bags etc were emptied out into the garden. Freaked me out a bit, but I ALWAYS sleep with my keys near me!

sorry to hear about the ordeal.
when i had a key tuned audi needed the car,i think they also need all the keys so all previous codes are erased and only the current keys should work.i also had to wait for audi to get the ecu codes from germany to do this.every key has its own code and the ecu needs to recognise this so it should be impossible to just cut a key.if the key is not coded the car will start and then just stall.
the other possibility is that somebody who had worked on the car took the chip out of the key and stuck it to the ignition barrel behind the dash.this would enable any key cut would start the car.
i think all rs cars need a traker but i have a box which enables me to cut the fuel supply by text.which means they wont get far away and cant do too much damage.
sorry again too hear of this.is birmingham the area for car jacking ect?i heard of somebody in a tvr who nearly had their car taken at the traffic lights by 4 blokes in balaclavers driving an s3 in birmingham.they cut in front of him and backed onto his car before jumping out with baseball bats,i suspect the s3 was also stolen.
good luck on your travels everybody.
