18393 Coolant Control Module 2 (J671) Malfunction P1985 002 Lower Limit Exceeded Intermittent. I cleared the fault and went for a drive and it came back. Does anyone know what and where this module is? I've looked through ETKA and can't find it. The car drives fine and the temperature rises to 90 and stays there, the fans appear to work ok although i have to put the aircon on to get then to work as i haven't got the engine hot enough.
My first problem / fault code
My first problem / fault code
I've had my RS6 since last November and regularly scan it using VCDS and so far it's been fault free
Yesterday i did a full scan and got fault code,

Re: My first problem / fault code
the J671 controls the left hand fan (the small one). It has a separate control module.
The other fan is controlled by J293 which seems to be integrated into the fan.
There is a part number for a radiator control unit which I presume is the J671 because the big fan part description is "radiator fan with control unit" whereas the small one's description is "radiator fan".
Anyway, the part number is 4B0 959 501E for the control unit.
Also, there are several fuses for the fans. Worth checking.

Thanks Shoppinit, i don't suppose you know where this control unit is on the car do you? All fuses fine, first thing i checked:)Shoppinit wrote:the J671 controls the left hand fan (the small one). It has a separate control module.

Re: My first problem / fault code
Thanks for that, my fans work but the fault is still there.

Re: My first problem / fault code
Some of the fuses for the fans are on the relay carrier, hidden behind the fuse board. Did you check those?bilko1 wrote:Thanks Shoppinit, i don't suppose you know where this control unit is on the car do you? All fuses fine, first thing i checked:)
I'm not sure where it is, but I'll see if I can find out.

Re: My first problem / fault code
Did you guys have any luck fixing this fault? I am showing the same error code with same symptoms - comes back after clearing the code.
I haven't checked the fuses yet so was hoping for some pointers. Did changing the control module fix the fault in the end?
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: My first problem / fault code
I still have the code and everything is still working? I checked all fuses including the ones hidden above the lower dash panel. I still have not found the control unit that is throwing the code and i recently had the front end off to change the intercoolers.

Now all you need to do is find out where the longitudinal member isThe radiator fan control unit 2 -J671- (on front left of longitudinal member) switches the radiator fan 2 -V177-

Re: My first problem / fault code
The fan plugs into a connector under the cover next to the power steering reservoir. The control module must be there somewhere.

Re: My first problem / fault code
I also have this code, will do some investigation and possibly a write up if I get car back this week (corrosion on the ATF cooler fixings has that away getting fixed)

A slightly different fault code though, but could use some pointers.

As Grizz says it under the n/s/f chassis leg.
