Hi all
I am not techincal in the way of cars however upon turning on my engine this morning the Engine Control light came on and stayed on. I assumed it would turn off so took it for a short drive around the block however the car would not accelerate and was seemingly put in "safe" mode.
I have a friend a VW who plugged it into his diagnostic system and the following fault was found; " Hydro Engine mount left - Static".
He is not in a position to fix this and frankly Im not sure he know exactly what it is.
Before I take the car to Audi or a specialist I just wanted to some advise on whether anyone else has had this, is it a big issue and was it expensive to fix?
Any advice appreciated.
Rob
S4 - Hydro Engine Mount Fault
Re: S4 - Hydro Engine Mount Fault
It's basically when under acceleration the engine mounts are pumped with fluid to stiffen them up via a solenoid. It could be just the solenoid failed or the plug came off. It could be a total failure. It's not a hard job or hugely expensive if done by an Indy specialist.
OEMs are nearly as much each as a pair of upgraded Stern ones I think or 034 ones are even cheaper. Upgraded ones do away with the hydraulic function as well, but will be a little harsher

Re: S4 - Hydro Engine Mount Fault
As above but it should not put the car into safe mode. I drove around for about 3yrs with one of my mounts triggering fault a code without it giving a CEL. Earlier mounts are prone to failing. Not surprising as the same mount is used for nearly the entire VAG range of engines.
