Some advice please

Post by RSKiwi » Wed Nov 09, 2011 9:01 pm

So living in London has its perils. Some w@nker has clipped my front wing while the car was parked on the street at home and done a runner.

I anticipated that something like this would eventually happen so its no great surprise, after all this is London.

I have reported it to the police for their records but and its a big but....

If I call my insurance company and tell them about it to discuss options and I choose not to use them will the fact that my car was damaged even though I have not claimed affect my premium?

This is not as daft a question as it sounds as the level of risk profiling with Insurance companies is through the roof and I am wondering that if they now consider my car at risk in the area they will just tweak my profile a little even though I never claimed.

Any thoughts, experience?

Cheers and death to scum with zero morals. :bash:

1. Fix it yourself.
2. Don't inform the insurance front bottoms.
3. Profit.

I estimate that I am staring down the barrel of approx £1800 judging by what my estimate for a front respray was and adding some labour etc on for pulling the dent from an Ali wing.

I reckon that my premium could rise £800 by doing a random insurance comparison...but that is never a given, hence wanting to call the Insurance company but I think you may be right and I may have to gamble and pay out myself......its a bastard thats for sure.

South West London mate, basically Wandsworth.

Don't tell the insurance co unless your going to claim. It can be classed as a loss even if you don't claim,so if you fail to declare it at renewal time, you may find your insurance is void should you make a claim in the future.

Thats the sort of thing I want to hear! I was going to get the front end stone chips taken out a few months ago and they reckoned around £1100 (two wings, bonnet, front bumper plus prep) The dent is pretty minor about the size of a cricket ball but who knows about whats behind it in terms of wing alignment etc etc.

Lofty? What if I already told the Rozzers and they have given me a reference? Can the insurance company call this up and demand details?

That doesn't sound likely IMHO.

I take it you mean the insurance companies log everything and they dont share with the police just each other unless you tell them otherwise?
