So whos had enough of there SATNAV
Re: So whos had enough of there SATNAV
When we left Wetherby on Sunday morning for Malton, the Audi Sat Nav sent us north up the A1.
We turned off at the next junction and it sent us south again, back the way we just came.
As soon as we were southbound it started telling us to turn off at the next junction and head north again so we would in effect be stuck in an infinite 5 mile loop!
We ended up ignoring the first juntion and taking the first signpost for York to force a route update.
Not the most intuitive of user controls and you really need a passenger to fiddle with it when it starts playing up.
This is probably the first time I've really had to use it in over a year and a half of ownership.

Re: So whos had enough of there SATNAV
My RNS-E was pretty good until the 2010 map update - now it insists on sending along a road that was closed over 30 years ago. But the maps PRIOR to 2010 knew the road had been closed.
Near my brother's home it tries to route us along roads that are narrower than an RS4, because the route would be about 100 yards shorter (much MUCH slower).
It also won't route along certain smaller minor roads, because of errors in the map data.
Since the maps come from Navteq (i.e. Nokia) IMHO the blame lies at their door, not Audi's door.

I need to update my navigation system as mine is a few years out of date..... I usually get one off the market for £7.99, I like the ring bound ones

My B8 A4 had the 3G Satnav and it's still not as god asmy 7 year old TomTom.
It doesn't do full postcodes but worse, it tells you to take the wrong exits on roundabouts.
Audi are currently investigating.

i dunno ... for the last 3 years I've had RNSE and still think it does a good job ... its not perfect, but what is ? (ok, apart from an R8)
Re: So whos had enough of there SATNAV
3G is now being replaced and as such the chance of my roundabout issue ever being resolved is minimal.....so I've accepted a goodwll gesture from Audi of £1000Scotty wrote:My B8 A4 had the 3G Satnav and it's still not as god asmy 7 year old TomTom.

Re: So whos had enough of there SATNAV
hell how far did you go for a meet, thats dedication,
yeah the nav is <beep>, set it to fastest route and it takes you down the worst roads known to man and stick it on fastest and it gives you a 50 mile detour the wrong way.
maybe i need a updated disk?

This is the reason I look like a tight prick and don't have an rs4 specced with sat nav. I run a second Tomtom when going anywhere I think may throw up a problem.
I almost lost my mind when the Audi one sent me through central London one time....at 6.30pm...it would have been quicker going via the Arctic circle to get to where I needed to go.

I've found that it makes no difference if I select shortest or fastest, it still offers me the same route?Rick_RS4 wrote:set it to fastest route and it takes you down the worst roads known to man and stick it on fastest and it gives you a 50 mile detour the wrong way.

It seems the real problem is that roads are chosen based on their speed limit and NOT the actual speed achieveable (e.g. you can't actually do 60mph down many country lanes), add to that the classification of some roads as non-routable and you're going to come up with rubbish routes.
IMHO the RNS-D had a MUCH better routing algorithm (and would remember avoid areas).
I've been running the 2011 disc since November last year, and it's no better - it's worse! Roads that have been closed for over 30 years are now used as through roads. I've reported the error to Navteq (who supply the mapping to Audi), but since it took them 5 years to correct the last error I told them about I'm not going to hold my breath...

3G nav on my 2011 A5 Cab, when abroad, the Traffic system didnt recognise I was on the other side of the carraigeway, and so would tell me of impending traffic when in fact it was on the other side
worse still, it didnt re-route us as we hit a 2hr traffic jam in Italy as it thought it was on the other carraigeway

Can't fault mine when using it aboard, rerouted me to avoid a one hour traffic jam on the way home from Spa.

My RNS-E has re-routed me to avoid the usualjams around Rouen several times.
Seems that aka_dk hasn't been so lucky with the MMI 3G - and he's not the only one to report serious problems with MMI 3G (Scotty on tyresmoke has been in "discussions" with Audi for some time over the problems with his).

I THINK its a love hate relationship with the satnav, at times its got me out of trouble (and put me in it).
The ETA's are spot on to the minute though.

Re: So whos had enough of there SATNAV
That surprises me, I've always found that it's estimates are pessimistic and I can usually get it to improve it's estimate by 10-15 minutes during the journey, and by as much as an additional 5 minutes in the last 10 minutes(!), so I usually arrive 15-20 minutes earlier than it's original estimate.sonny wrote:The ETA's are spot on to the minute though.
I find both Google maps and CoPilot 8 on my phone are far more accurate - but I love the OE integration so I'm happy to stick with the RNS-E.
