Almost sold on a B5

Post by caminator » Wed Oct 12, 2011 12:45 pm

Hi guys

I'm in the market for a weekend car and i've always lusted after a b5 rs4 ever since my little pulsar gti-r was eaten alive by one many moons ago. Can anyone give me an idea of how bad the understeer really is on these? I've seen a few videos where they seem to just understeer forever. How much of a difference can i make with coilovers/general suspension and chassis mods? The other car i'm pondering is an e46 m3 but they're super common these days, weight distribution + rwd does excite me though.

Any input is appreciated, hopefully test driving one this weekend but im not sure i can get away with driving it hard enough to show its true character ;)

Thanks in advance!

Uprated anti roll bars will sort the understeer. Bigger brakes on the front needed if you're going to drive it hard. what is your budget?

You start with sorting out the rear end first,it depends on how far you want to go with it really.Coilovers, rear arm bushes,Rear ARB,Then a decent set of front arms,034 Density line, would be my choice, and some decent lightweight brake discs.I wouldn't personally do the B7 brake conversion myself, you can get good discs and pads to fit the standard calipers,or just use B7 calipers and better discs. If you want any help, just drop me a pm.
