Retro Fitting to RS3

Post by Dave_Hedgehog » Sat Sep 24, 2011 9:53 am

Is it possible to retro fit any of the following to the RS3, and at what cost?

Cruise Control

Connivance Pack (auto wipers and or auto lights)

Bose

Thanks

Oh and can you take out the 5 year warranty after the car is dealer registered?

yes to all of the above except the 5 year warranty

but you can just extend your manufacturer warranty when it runs out at the end of year 3, but on a yearly basis and will cost more than signing up to the 5 yrs up front

well the bose is out, with trim its over 2 grand :bash:

i wonder what the technical recruitment for changing the windscreen is, i assume its to get the black box on the glass but is that just cosmetic?

Steve
I was not in a position to put my name on the list when the RS3 became available, but I am now in a position to change my 5 year old R32 DSG whilst its still in good condition.

I had a budget of 35K all in and wont give up 5 doors, 4wd and DSG so my choices are limited, I also dont want anything bigger or heavier than the Golf.

In my spec the Golf R comes in at 41k and the S3 38.5K so when I found a dealer reg'd RS3 in my perfect colour but low spec at a price i could afford I jumped on it. The car is just on a different planet compared to its lower models so it seamed like a bargain. I honestly wasnt looking for a RS, I had my eye on a R golf as I prefer the styling to the S3 but I just stumbled upon one.

Cruise is a must imo but an easy and cheap fix (costing no more to retro fit than to spec new). The convenience pack is really nice but tbh I am on the fence about retro fitting it as its a grand to do with the screen, but probably will do it, maybe, not sure, lol It is just being lazy after all lol

Bose would be nice but my R32 has the stock radio and Its not really been an issue and I assume the newer head units in the A3 are better than my ageing golf head unit.

The rest of the options tbh just don't interest me, the buckets look nice but the stock seats are better for us fat gits. I am not that bothered about reselling it, I will keep it at least 5 years as I can not see anything better coming out, the wet clutch DSG is a massive improvement over the standard 6 and 7 speed versions and the acceleration under 120 is bonkers as is the grip and turn in. I certainly don't need to go any faster on public roads, the cars certainly fast enough to get you serious jail time in the UK.

The biggest problem I had was that most of the available RS3's have got the drug dealer blacked out windows which I hate with a passion, because for one thing I don't sell drugs :p but mostly because it destroys the line of the car from the side, its makes the rear look fat and bloated and "sink" with the unbalance effect of having the back half blacked out but not the front half. Just my opinion but it bugs the hell out of me..

Every time you switch on the lights or the wipers, drop a pound in the door pocket. When you've got a thousand quid, either go retrofit shipping or find yourself an old strip pub...
Good choice in the '3 - I've grown to really like it, must sound awesome when it digs deep.
No matter where you go, there you are.

When you've got a small child trying to sleep in the back and the sun is blazing then blinds and privacy glass are must haves. I now wouldn't spec a car without them.

The problem with retrofitting is that you risk introducing the squeeks and rattles associated with taking the car apart. Tough call.

Thankfully I jumped on a cancelled order which was available to amend. Job done.

I've just bought a new RS3 - Does anyone know if the cruise control stalk is an easy installation that can be fitted and coded yourself with VAG-COM or dealer only?

I bought I pre-build car with all the options I wanted except for cruise :-) I negotiated a great deal and they aren't prepared to budge on the £220+VAT install in the dealer. I've done many a retro fit in Golfs and Audi's in the past and wondered if anyone had tackled this themselves.

Thanks in advance Guy

If you can get them to do for £220 including the VAT then take it, that's a good price.

I got Stoke Audi to retro fit mine.

AFAIK the extended warranty coverage is different and inferior to the coverage which the 5 year warranty includes.

Bose

Thanks

Cruise is a must for me so worth retro fitting but I've got the auto wipers and lights on my new S4 and wouldn't have paid for them if they weren't standard, the lights are ok but the wipers are a waste of time.
