Sky insurance need a tracker fitted !!!

Well not knock a supporter of the fourm but unless you have a active tracker fitted to your car and you want to insure a RS4 B7 save your time and money as SKY insurance will not insure you.

But Aviva and Admiral dont require a tracker to be fitted and want for me and the misses SD&C -- Aviva £509 with £850 excess , Admiral is £585 but only £450 excess both protected ncd. Me Full NCD & clean licence @ 52 years young living TN10 Kent + a couple of extra cars to use.

I'm with Admiral. They do a multi car policy so if you have other cars it should be cheaper to insure all of them with Admiral.

Many years ago I know a chap who took a policy out and was asked the question... "Does the car have a tracker", he replied on the phone "Yes, there is a tracker fitted to the car".

Policy documents came through and it stated under Tracker: Factory Fit CAT 1 (or something along those lines).

Anyway long story short the tracker wasn't active and they refused to pay out when his car was stolen from a train station in the end there was a big on-going debate and the insurance company had to pay out as he prepared to take legal action as the insurance company never asked the question if it was active only if one was fitted and his documents of insurance again only stated a tracker was fitted.

Only bringing this up as when I rang around for quotes the question they ask me always seems to be "is a tracker fitted to the car", and never "is an active tracker fitted to the car" looking at my documents now it no way represents that an tracker is active, only that the car has a tracker fitted. I would appear a loop-hole remains there in a grey area potentially.

And on a final note, I've been with SKY Insurance for the previous 2-3 years now and on neither my M3 or my RS4 has it been a requirement for me to have a tracker (renewed my policy in May and last amended in June) maybe it's dependent on crime rate in that particular area?

i thought that aswell about active tracker

i have a tracker fitted but not active, but i have declared to insurance i dont have a tracker

tbh, it makes about £2 worth of difference so not bothered

Were i live TN10 is a low risk area, but why are the other compainies not bothered about a tracker when SKY is, i not blaming them its there underwriter, all the cars I have had with a tracker fitted, its never been worth paying for the unit to activated as it only saved £20 on the premium.

My Clio V6 has a tracker and it saved £13 if activated, so it not active as its cost £100 a year in subscriptions and unit checking fees.

Sky must be cutting out a lot of business by have this tracker requirement.

just to clarify, WE DO NOT NEED A TRACKER fitted on every vehicle, we look at each case on it's own merit, in some cases we do require a tracker to be fitted but this is quite rare with us, a reason for us having to request a tracker is fitted and active could be down to a postcode or vehicle value.

Yep your right i was told it was due to the value, but all RS4's are worth big money so you will alway want a tracker fitted on a RS4 B7, still does not account why you need one fitted and the others dont

Going with old insurer no tracker fitted at £498 Full comp protected.

Just renewed insurance on our 2007 RS4 B7 avant £310 with excess of £850 plus £200 extra for non approved repairer in the wife's name with me as named driver
