Group buy of Sportec IC for RS4

Post by Nikolaos » Tue Mar 23, 2004 5:46 pm

I´m interested in the Sportec intercoolers kit for RS4 but the price is arround 4.400,- Eur without tax and transportation from Switzerland.

I thought maybe if some of us, which are realy interested but cannot afford so high price, could get together and make a group buy from Sportec in Switzerland. My target price is not more than 3k Eur.

What do you think?

That is a huge cost for what they are - an air cooler.

What performance gain is claimed over the stock RS4 intercooler ?

And what is the difference in packaging i.e. are any mods required to fit them ?

Thanks

David

Why not the FMIC? I didn't think the Sportec ones were supposed to be that good.

From memory the Sportec I/C's offer around a 30% increase in cooling efficiency. The FMIC that Quovadis mentions in the link I will paste below seems the better bet for far less outlay.

Yes, I know it´s huge price for a small effect.

They say that the coolling area is 40% bigger than the stock one. It should bring some benefits especially in the summer hot days or when you push hard on the track for more than half an hour.

About the FMIC, which you mentioned I´m not sure what exactly you mean but if it´s the IC which I saw a few weeks ago on this forum, a silver Sportec RS4, which had a front mount IC then:
First of all I didn´t like it. Our cars are not Supras or Evos.
And secondly, from my point of view, this front mount IC covers the part, which cooles the water of the engine (I don´t know the English word) and that might not be so good, right?
I understand that this IC is a lot cheapper than the Sportec one and more efficient but it´s just not for me.

The Sportec IC kit it´s the only one which attracted me somehow untill now. The big problem is the price, that´s why I thought to try this forum, if there is anyone else who´s interested so that I can push Sportec to a target price of 3k Eur.

Consider it!

I like the idea of the FMIC but agree that for stealth mode, as these cars are, then keeping something that is close to original is a positive move too

I have spoken to AMD to see if they can organise a group buy for those interested, as they are the UK supplier of Sportec, just to see what response we get

Cheers

I was looking at it too. Sportec offered 26% off original price but still expensive. Let see if a group buy can push down more!

So far I got approximately 3.300,- Eur for 3 kits, which is not bad but still not for me.

If we could get for example 10 kits at once, then the price should be really interesting. Do you think it´s imposible? I think not!

This kit is so specific that I think Sportec in Switzerland has only a very few kits on stock. If we order 10 kits at once, then they will be produced just for us.

As far as me is concerned, this group buy doesen´t have to be now, it can be done until the end of this year. Let´s show the strength of the RS246.com site to Sportec.

So for the future group buy (if there ever be one), I´m the first one on the list. Will anyone esle follow this list?

Oh, and today I was informed from Mr. Leutert from Sportec that we will get an additional 15HP from this kit.

So you got around 25% off for 3 kits? That s not so bad, and not sure you ll get a lot more from them (wish you will). I was by them this monday to have my S3 chipped and shortshifted, which allow to see the RS600 on the road (The RS6 with 600hp that was on the Geneva motorshow), and there were 2 GT2 on the parking, one with full engine removed, probably in the process of becoming a sp650 or sp700, also there was a 996 Turbo being worked on and then some other Audi. So it seems their business is running... Also discussed with them about rebates, and seems like, depending on the parts, club rebates can be up to 20% but probably not a lot more.
Don t know also if 10 kits seems so high, remember that out of the 6500 or so RS4 that ve been produced around 1600-1800 (don t remember exactly but it s around 25%) have been sold in this small country called Switzerland... I agree not all are tuned, and then ABT and Digit Power (swiss tuner also) get their share also.

It´s an interesting site Ola but from what I understand this kit is for the S4 and it won´t fit an RS4. Of course a similar kit, which would fit the RS4 would be interesting. And the price is reasonable!!!

1600 - 1800 RS4 in Switzerland? What is it a best seller? That might be similar number to German market, which buys 1/3 of the complete Audi AG production.

A friend of mine went with his GT3 for a trip last year to Switzerland and he told me that he saw lot´s of RS4. Now I belive him.

Well I think it was about 25% that went to Switzerland. Usually on a morning trip to work (25km), I can see 3-5 RS4, 1-2 RS6 and some Cayenne. Generally speaking Audi is one of the good sellers here, and specificaly the S/RS models, S3 is alot more common than the A3 TDi for instance.
Unfortunately, it s still a bit expensive for me :( (As is the GT3, which I had the opportunity to drive on an airport... Great car! )

Hi Nikolaos, Id like your idea about group buy of Sportec intercoolers. Please add me to your list and notify me when you would buy them.
