They haven't sold you the winters have they ;-)

I was gonna say that I don't have mine yet so you get yourself something else and I'll have the Vreds off of you but you're putting me off now. My rears (Vred's) have been low for a while (whilst I decide what to get) but they are still really assured in the wet.

Rekon I'll go with Potenza's.

Well.
Took the car over to Black Boots / Wheels in Motion today (Chesham. Bucks)..... for an alignment check/fix !

Had planned to use the guys that fitted the Sessanta's originally but frankly I didn't have that much confidence in them).
I picked Black Boots as they seemed to know what they were talking about when it came to 4 wheel alignments, and thus I took a punt.
Obviously, I'd also picked this garage as they had the Hunter system.

Very glad I did too:
Firstly Pete, the tech who did my car seemed very well clued-up generally and was able to explain all the adjustments and possible consequences, also allowing for fitted spacers etc. Fortunately the front- sub frame didn''t need adjusting so that end was easy to sort. The rear took a bit of toing and froing but he got there in the end.
Also swapped front-to-rears for good measure.
All in, prob about 80-90 mins work.

Turns out that Jason, the proprietor owns an RS4 Saloon, fitted with.... yeah you guessed it, Sessanta's. So that was a bonus.
I was please with the knowledge and time taken over my car today and would highly recommend them based on my one-time experience.
Car still feels "loose" but a tad better than before, so I'll try to wrack up some more miles.

Ps, Jason is about to sell his Saloon (Daytona.... all stock OEM), if anyone's interested.

I may give them a try Tim as they're not far from me.
Can I ask how much you paid?

Wheels in Motion have a very good reputation in MX5 circles for being THE place to do tracking and alignment - so from that I'd assume they do know what they're doing, unlike a lot of tyre places.

Sure. £95 + Vat for the standard alignment. Two places have now told me that if the front sub needs adjusting, then extra time/cost is therefore involved.
They still spent well over an our on mine for the £95.

For the general public I meant we both drove eachothers cars. Felt the same but completely different.

We didn't even touch!

Right. Bit of an update due, I guess:
Just come back from yet another spirited drive and these are my findings:
The tyres have now done about 250 miles and they certainly feel much better than before. This however may be partly due to me getting used to them.
Shagga has the same, albeit worn, Sessantas. I could definitely tell they had the same characteristics as my new jobbies. Shagga loves his tyres but then they have always been on his RS, so I can understand why.
They really seem to grip..... and then erm DON'T. I've been trying to think of suitable descriptions for my experience when this happens....
I guess the car seems to go very light, almost as though it's hit an icy patch or aquaplaned.... but probably hasn't actually lost any real mechanical grip, in reality. Very strange.
They also seem to oversteer terribly, on both cars !!!
On my previous Conti's if I pointed the nose into a bend, that's where the car went. It made for a very point-and-shoot experience, which I loved.
On the Sessantas however, I feel that it may be gripping well but that's not what's getting fed back to me. It all feels very "spongy" especially on fast/sweeping curves, where I now have no confidence what's so-ever. (The car "drifts" but not as though tramlining.... just feels like lack of grip)
I get the impression that the back is kicking out (again on both cars). I rarely experienced this on the Conti's.
A noticeable speed is about 80mph.... then I need to "switch on and concentrate". Almost like a predefined level at which the tyres change their properties.
I have wondered if the unusual thread pattern is somewhat to blame ? Being a non-directional tyre is makes me wonder how a symmetrical grip can be held. If you see what I mean ?
Look at a pair of Sessanta's, if they are not LH/RH specific on a car... how can the patterns be mirrored... they can't.
Getting well out of my depth here, but it does seem odd.

Anyway, I'm sure in time they will hit their Sweet-Spot (I just hope it hurries up).
In the twisties between 0-60, they seem like they'll be fun, but that may be because my car is behaving very differently and it feels a bit more on the edge.
I have however had several experience already at higher speeds, where I thought sh*t... is this where I put it into the Armco. Not nice.

Timster, do you have stock ARB's or uprated? I only ask as I can only perceive the fact that I am on Hotchkis ARB's on agressive setting that my Sessanta's do not feel the same as yours? I get what you mean about grip and then don't but only when on maximum attack but then I'm confident in the car 4 wheel drifting not to get myself into any bother. I have said before though that they do not have the ultimate grip of say a PS2 and that was highlighted on the Ring last year but that I believe is the trade off for a tyre of it's price and one that gives me nearly 30k miles wear rather than 12-15k miles.

That's based on actual driving of an RS4 on Conti SC3's, Goodyear F1 Assymetrics and another car on PS2's

I never knew the vreds didn't have left and right based tread pattern.
For such a dramatic asymmetric tyre pattern I find it really surprising.

Exactly. That's what I was thinking. I was rather hoping someone would come back on here and tell me the fitters should have put "pairs" on.
Guess not.
