Radar & laser detectors
Radar & laser detectors
So who has what?
I currently have a BEL 969 which has the sensor mounted in the front grill and the control box discretely mounted int he cabin so no dodgy displays on the windscreen
Unfortunately just got done by a mobile unit, but no warning
So what i could do with is an updated box of tricks
I ideally want one that detects pretty much everything and is descrete in installation
I wonder if anyone has any exerience of the following;
Snooper S6-R Neo
Road Angel with laser alert? Not sur eif it can be mounted discretely>?
I think Origin Blue loks good but does it pick up mobile units?
Road angel
I welcome peoples comments
Thanks
Bushy

Hey Bushy - sorry to hear. If the 969 didn't warn, I presume that you were caught by a laser gun. The problem with laser is that they get their speed reading in less than a second - no detector will give you a chance to react in time. The only defence is to use a 'diffuser' - however, the police do seem to get upset by these. Whilst not outlawed under the WT laws, the police have been successful in bringing 'perverting the course of justice' charges to court. If you really do have laser-controlled remote operation of garage door or lights, I would think that the 'perverting' claim would be quite unlikely to stick.
I have an LRC100 'Garage door opener' installed, and this does seem to be effective. The installation can also be very discrete. You would have to know exactly what you're looking for and be within three feet of the car to spot it.
It is rumoured that HID Xenon lights can also upset laser guns, so if your headlights are on there would be some doubt in the operators mind as to whether or not you are operating a diffuser. I've hear that (some?) active cruise controls work on a laser beam and are also known to disrupt laser speed measuring equipment.
I also use a RoadPilot GPS system, which has the option of a remote radar detector head (the BEL975 is the one supplied, but it also works with the BEL966 - I'm not sure about compatibility with your existing 969 head). I haven't yet installed the radar head as I am still thinking about the best location for it. I am not too worried about discrete installation of the RoadPilot - it is perfectly legal.
Feel free to come round to see my setup (and advise on the BEL installation?).

I have the Origin B2 and am very happy with it.
Why?
Because it's not silly in deisgn, and has loads of stuff that plugs directly into it.
As a base unit it ships with the GPS Based Camera Database and a laser detector. The laser detector is very good and picks things up straight away.... just a shame that straight away usually means you are nicked!...
But as plug in modules you can get a radar detector plug in - to get all those mobile radar sites; and also you can get a LRC100 Garage door opener which is known to interfere with laser cameras/ The LRC100 plugs directly into the B2 so the info is shown on the LCD rather than having to stick loads more cables into the car for buzzers etc.
I feel naked without my b2 and it defo works!
Negative side is that to get all options will cost - but well well worth it IMHO.
Speak to Networx Automotive and tell them that you are from the RS246 web site and they should look after you. Try Derek to start with and if you get no joy there try Colin.

Zero Drama
I've recently fitted my Origin B2. Very impressive unit and it's small so slips into a shirt pocket when you leave the car. The install can be quite discreet too. I paid 335 inc vat and delivery for mine. Bit of a bargain methinks! I plan to supplement it with either a Bel 550 or 990 but I am not sure about risking the LRC100 - you could get fecked over if you get caught with one: "perverting the course of justice" is frowned upon!
I borrowed me ol' man's Bel 550 once and it screamed laser as I was doing about 140 and accelerating. It picked up scatter from around 2 miles away which impressed me greatly (and saved my butt!). There are pretty good reviews of all hardware on www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk if you don't already know of it.

LRC100 is only way to go.......we had a scamera van at TT rolling road day and he let people drive up to it. The LRC jammed it every single time even from as low a distance at 30feet. I got mine from www.mobilecentre.co.uk
@Thorney, I heard that was quite a good day. That was the one where TVP were invited along, right?
What would a copper do if he found a jammer on your motor? Would he believe it was a garage door opener or are they a bit more clued up than that? I suspect they might still pull you over if you were obviously going quicker than the fellow motorists around you...whether their signal was 'jammed' or not. Typing that has just reminded me of the radar jamming scene in Mel Brookes' movie, Spaceballs. I think they used Strawberry jam! LOL!

I got to try my Snooper S6RNEO today. Went for a long drive on unfamiliar roads in Northampton. It saved me from 2 SPECS sequences, at least half a dozen Truvelos, a number of Gatsos (armed), a mobile unit, and numerous sliding doors !
I was well impressed with the performance. I have always been sceptical in the past, but those SPECs and Truvelos are quite hard to spot.
I would recommend this set-up.
Chose wisely...

I have a Bel 550. Only really worried about "scameras" (LOL) and laser in national speed limit areas. I tend to keep my speed as close to the sign posted limit as possible - Just use the cruise most of the time.

I thought cruise only works over 50mph, tricky in 30 and 40 limits huh?PhilT wrote:I have a Bel 550. Only really worried about "scameras" (LOL) and laser in national speed limit areas. I tend to keep my speed as close to the sign posted limit as possible - Just use the cruise most of the time.
