Post by MPAudiS3 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 8:46 am

Hello all,

I've just joined the site and am looking for some advice on the asking price for a dealer car i'm thinking of buying.

It's an Audi Network car which they claim they bought from someone who hardly used the car.

They are asking £31, 995 for the car and i have them down to £31k so far.

I have no trade in.

Car looks mint.

Would appreciate some feedback please on the asking price and if it sounds right or not?

Cheers

Looks a good spec. Has it got the flat bottomed steering wheel? I presume it is a saloon?

Is that the one in the Aberdeen P&J this week, it's identical from memory?

I thought £32k was way over the odds, if you were to do some decent mileage, it will be worth ca. £20k in about year!

Thanks guys.

It has flatbottomed wheel and is a saloon.

The car is at Audi Chingford.

I saw the P&J (silver) car, way too much for a private sale if you ask me.

Dunno what to do, its the best car i've found.

All I can say that if it is the best one you have found and you are prepared to pay then go for it. It is a good spec with good miles but as they say it will drop quite a bit in pice if you do a few miles in it. If you show you are keen and show Audi plenty of examples of similar ones cheaper they may come down further.

You could try my tactic and turn up with a cheque for what you are prepared to pay, lets say £29k and hand it over and tell them its all your prepared to pay. Its worked a treat a few times for me, it saves them loads of hassle and when they get it in their sweaty little hands they struggle to give it back when its almost what they want for the car.

I don't know IF i'm prepared to pay it. I only do about 6k miles a year.

I don't mind paying for things, but its robbery what they are asking.

I have shown them similar cars for cheaper, but they are not interested. Its greed, sheer greed.

I like the sound of your tactic!

..hmmm, sounds familiar.. I'm also looking to buy (Avant though) -and have been in discussion with an Audi dealer re price... :audibash: -I understand they will be more pricey, but not the level they're asking. I just think they're behind the times.

..it's worth pointing out to them that the new Reg (1 Sep) will have an impact on second hand prices and that the new RS4 is coming.. once officially launched that will impact too...

-..in fact I doubt we'll be seeing B7 RS4's at main dealers much longer...

Good luck ! -sounds like a lovely car by the way,

I'm looking to buy also but at that price its very expensive. As a cash buyer i'd only offer £29k...tell them take it or leave it...

31k is not robbery if it's a low milege, absolutely mint 2007. As mentioned above, if you were doing big miles, paying a premium for a low miler would be pointless. If you are doing low mileage I'd say go for it, for there will always be demand for late, low milers.

After you have battled Audi down to the lowest price, perhaps be bullish and only shake if they fit carbon trim included as part of the deal?! If you don't ask you don't get....

Thanks guys.

I agree, B7 will soon be kicked out to the realm of the independents, what with warranty expiry etc.

They don't seem to want old metal on the forecourts these days, particularly V8 "politically incorrect" old metal!

But i also agree that there will be a demand for late low milers.

Yes, if you don't ask you don't get...

I paid too much last year for a Mugello blue Avant, 16k miles, one owner, everything else I wanted including a sunroof, but am I happy oh yes.

Audi warranty is worth a lot as these cars get older mine has had £4K under warranty this year alone.

The premium is the price you pay for the reassurance of the approved-used warranty. What price do you put on this? - this is not rhetorical because I'm not sure myself if you can purchase an Audi warranty once it's out of warranty like you can BMW.

On the subject of RS4 pricing, it seems even non-Audi dealers can still command crazy prices on low-milers. This 57 Black Avant at Bramley with 7.5k seemingly went for around £40k http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3054537.htm . Even with a waggle of £2k, its still a staggering price. If you invest in top-notch detailing and a good camera then it pays dividends - the car does look amazing. :beerchug:

Bramley pricing does seem a bit odd of late. Their stock is typically low mileage, late and immaculate as mentioned. Surely if they have to sit on stock for any length of time they risk getting their fingers well and truly burnt?

I agree on the detailling - well worth 400 quid or so to get the car properly detailled and decent pictures.
RS4's look stunning when all sparkly no matter the colour or if Saloon or Avant (Cab is still camp though ;))
