Driving at 'high' speed down the M40 on Sunday in a car without TPMS where I had checked the pressures 10 day earlier after I had just bought it but not that day, an element of doubt did cross my mind, never had that with the RS4 as I know TPMS would tell me.
A lady asked me to look at her new Beetle because it was making a funny noise when cornering, she had 18" Lambo replica rims on it so the tyres were low profile, nearside rear tyre had NO pressure in it, NONE AT ALL and yet it looked 50% inflated to my eye.
I think TPMS is great when it works which for most people it does, I'd say a lot of the hassle people have is from tyre fitters breaking valves and aerials getting corroded, all of which are easy and cheap to fix.
Go to GSF and get the valves and sensors for half Audi, same make (Beru).
