Hi peeps,
I have two 1T drives that I would like to combine in a single enclosure, but I dont need NAS functionality as I already have it. Also not necesarilly bothered by RAID either, just need to combine both 3.5" drives into one unit with one power supply. And connect via USB or Firewire.
Any ideas? thanks
IT Question: Twin HDD Enclosure
Re: IT Question: Twin HDD Enclosure
Sorry, I've only just seen this, I've used DataWhales on forensic collections before, a cool bit of kit. That should suit your needs but I've a feeling it'll be hard pressed these days to get your hands on one... (BTW, if you're not interested in RAID then stick it in JBOD mode - although I'd never recommend it, RAID 1 all the way baby, peace of mind).
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: IT Question: Twin HDD Enclosure
Is cost an issue or are you just looking for a cheap HD enclosure.
A Readynas Duo would do.... just don't use the NAS functionality. You then have the full use of RAID options... or not.

I run a 2TB ReadyNAS Duo in X-RAID at home, it's awesome.TimsterRS4 wrote:Is cost an issue or are you just looking for a cheap HD enclosure.

Re: IT Question: Twin HDD Enclosure
Yeah. They're great aren't they... Netgear bought the company Readynas a few years back (which was already the NAS product to buy) and for once Netgear didn't f*ck it all up.bam_bam wrote:I run a 2TB ReadyNAS Duo in X-RAID at home, it's awesome.TimsterRS4 wrote:Is cost an issue or are you just looking for a cheap HD enclosure.

I think an "empty" Readynas Duo can be had fairly cheap now.... which I believe is was the OP was after.

Re: IT Question: Twin HDD Enclosure
Nah, the OP just wants to run JBOD, didn't want NAS function and isn't interested in RAID at all, that's why I suggested the DataWhale. I was also nervous Netgear was going to <beep> it up too as I'd used the Infrant products (that's who made the ReadyNAS) for years.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: IT Question: Twin HDD Enclosure
Very impressed with the ReadyNAS, bought the NV+ but definitely wary of Netgear and their ability to ruin a good product.
