Scottish owners heading to the National Gathering - 24/7/11

Post by lma07 » Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:38 pm

I have been speaking to 22B about this gathering. We felt that it would be sensible to leave on the Saturday afternoon (23rd July) and stay overnight near to the venue. Meet the RS246 crowd on the Sunday then stay overnight at the Old Lodge, returning to Scotland on the Monday.

(Unfortunately there is a wedding at the Old Lodge on the Saturday night so there are no rooms available on the 23rd July)

If you can let me know if you are interested in joining us on the journey can you please add your name and what area you are leaving from below.

Once numbers are known we can look into accommodation for the Saturday night and sort out pick up points on the way down south.

Thanks
Laura

I'll join you on the Sunday morning near the Toon, have you decided where you are staying? Convenient meeting point would be the Falcon's Nest next to Gosforth Park Racecourse just off the A1(M), next junction after the turn off for the A19. Then we can either tunnel run through the Tyne Tunnel or bomb down the A1 / A690 / A19 to Teesside and then across the N.York moors / Whitby Road to the venue.

Hey Laura,
I'll def be at the venue on Sunday, I'm just unsure what my plans are at the moment for the Saturday as I may be in Edinburgh.
If thats the case I'd probably just head down from EDI early on the Sunday morning.
If not then I'd probably travel down with the Aberdeen lot on Saturday afternoon.

I hope you don't mind if I offer a bit of advice. From Edinburgh to the level of Newcastle I'd recommend these routes:

1. Edinburgh - Coldstream - Newcastle
2. Edinburgh - Jeburgh - Newcastle
3. Edinburgh - Hawick - Newcastle

Or just put it another way: avoid the Edinburgh-Newcastle A1 like the plague. It's slow, dull and you'll miss some fantastic roads/scenery. You'll save time too when traffic is factored in.

I'm not sure if I can come along to the big meet. I'm very jealous.

Best route is the Jedburgh one as you get to go over Carter Bar via Otterburn into Ponteland /. Newcastle and it is an immense road with plenty of passing places and technical bits. Even the Coldstream road gets bunged with HGV and caravan overspill from the A1.

Morrison110. We could meet you near Perth if that suits. I take it you'll come down the A9?

Hi Laura,

Do you have a cut off date? If I'm here I will be departing from Aberdeen.

No firm plans on routes or time yet.

Iain (22B) and Laura probably leaving Aberdeen Saturday afternoon as Iain has business to take care of.
I'll be joining them from Edinburgh / Glasgow way depending on which route Iain decides on taking.
Overnight (Sat) somewhere around York near to Malton Lodge on Saturday night.
Overnight (Sun) at the old lodge.
York to ABZ on Monday.

Once a route has been decided, we can arrange meet up times and places along the way.
