I used this method to get a jump from a fiat cincqcento
Yup - what he says.

The polo may not be able to give the amps required to crank a v8 but it can provide a few at 13+ volts which is in effect what your alternator does.
Same goes for those jump starting packs as very few can output the required levels however just leave them connected and it'll be fine (assuming your battery isn't completely dead). 10 mins should be enough and you don't even technically need the polo engine running although it does speed things up and prevent the polo having a flat battery too!

When my old car was in storage I used one of those portable jump starting kits that had a cigarette lighter socket and left it attached to the car via that. Effectively gives you a huge standby time as the current will always come from the more highly charged battery and then you can just take it home to charge overnight.

Mine spends 3 weeks in the garage between trips out at the mo and thankfully it's been starting with no problems but one day.. :)
