RS4 Bucket Seats or not...

Post by ownedrs24 » Tue May 31, 2011 10:45 am

I am looking to buy a RS4 Cab and was wanting some honest opinions on the Bucket Seat option - are they better than the standard seats, more or less comfortable for long journeys?

Would appreciate any feedback.

Cheers.

you really need to try both yourself, but I would not buy an RS without buckets

roughly speaking the pros of each IMHO:

buckets - look better, 1 of only 2 main distinguishing RS4 interior features, much better holding, excellent comfort

recaros - electric and memory might be useful, wear less on the bolsters, better rear legroom

According to this thread, by a Cab owner the Cab comfort seats are just A4 seats with RS4 stitched into them so it may be a much worse choice than the saloon/avant bucket debate summed up nicely by Adam.

Personally I couldn't have an RS without buckets unless I had a dodgy back. They are a bit of a pain to get out of (particulary for the wife in skirts etc) but well worth it. there is a knack. I don't miss the electric functions of the comforts I had in my B6 S4 which I think are the same? Also had no complaints of limited legroom from passengers and had two 6ft 3" guys in the back at the weekend (admittedly I'm only 5ft 8").
The comforts are 'nice' but take a little away from the RS look - IMHO of course.

Horses for courses.

I initially hated the buckets, but gradually getting used to them... I've driven long trips and had no problems.
they remove quite a chunk of legroom on the rear seats... I am 6.2 and I cannot have anyone taller than a midget comfortably seated behind...
getting in and out is quite tricky too mind you :blackrs4:

Buckets every time for me. Yes, they are harder to get in and out of but not that hard (I have a dodgy back and can manage it). When hooning round the twisties they genuinely keep you from sliding around.

Bucket seats all the way!
I use the car all the time long or short journeys (51k miles in them) never had an issue of comfort, and when the road starts to twist, they are utterly brilliant.

The ONLY right answer is whichever seats you:

1) like the look of; and

2) find comfortable.

Nobody else's opinion matters - you're going to be owning and driving the car after all.

I have buckets and wanted to swap for comforts but have decided to stick with them for a number of reasons but the main one they look so cool especially with the roof down, and like has been said your alternative is standard A4 cab seats with RS4 stiched into them Yuk!

As MB2 says, for a cab it's prob best (if you find it comfortable) to get buckets as the only other alternative for a cab are the sh1tty A4 seats (comfort recaros are not available for a cab). If it's an avant/saloon its a much harder question to answer.

For clarity, as has been said, the RS 4 cab comes with Buckets, or normal A4 sports seats .... not Recaro's as in the saloon and avant

here are Cabriolet standard seats:

Here are bog standard A4 seats (in a crazy colour!)

also, my opinion is Buckets, all day every day

remember in a cab, they are on show alot more and look awesome and give the RS the special feeling it deserves

they are perfectly comfortable, i recently drove to Germany and the Scottish highlands with no problems whatsoever

They are also functional in that they provide the necessary support when pushing on

Also, to the OP ... have you considered mine, and if its not for you, I'd be grateful if you could provide some feedback as to your thoughts on it, as they might be useful in helping me sell

For you they are, but for some of us they are excruciatingly painful - which is why I said it's a totally personal thing.

I don't think we should influence ownedrs4's choice - he should try both seat types and decide for himself, it's his money and his car.

Good point Dave, but I would say that if you are comfortable in both style seats to get the buckets. The majority of people appear to prefer buckets so they have got to help with re-sale values.
