H&R PSC Coil over suspension

Post by TarmacTerrorist » Sat Feb 14, 2004 10:30 am

I now have a set on 19's on the car with the quattro susy's on, but I'm getting slight rubbing on the front arches (Chubby, ). Been thinking about the H+R PSC kit JR has on his car which is fully adjustable and I believe John is getting good results with?

John, How much is the kit? Would there be any room for discount if we can buy say 5+ sets? Anyone else interested?
(I presume this kit will also fit an S4).

As an immediate solution I was thinking of returning the standard springs to the fronts but retaining the quattro dampers in a bid to raise the height again and hopefully avoid the rubbing. Any thoughts on this?
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

Which 19's, Gav?

Put me down as interested, if you take your enquiries further with the H&R

I have the H&R kit on mine and must admit they are good but still not perfect IMO - This is the 3rd kit I have tried and is the best yet (quattro, H&R and H&R Current) but I reckon it is still not perfect .... or perhaps I am looking for perfection! They are very very good on track and smooth road surfaces but not so clever on the bumpy stuff (can't seem to reach a happy medium for ride quality) They are pretty expensive though and if you look at them they are simply a rebadged bilstein PSS9 kit for which H&R have been given exclusive rights to but then it will solve your problem as the ride height and damping on the front could be set to eliminate your rubbing problem.

howdy guys!

i will have the h&r fitted next week, and after another 2-3 weeks i will have a very special k&w kit fitted. (i got the h&r as agift and my quattro is down; the k&w takes time to be built, thats why the 2 changes...) 3 friends of mine have installed that k&w kit, which is around 3500 euros. they are all more than satisfied. one is the admin of the german audi-speed.com forum and he has also tried different things. i will keep you posted and if someone has interest, i can ask for a special deals. they also know how to adjust the kit if you tell them whether you 18´´ or 19´´ or under which conditions you use your car.

cheers

Ahhhhhaaa stop press the kit might actually be okay it would appear that one of my rear units is faulty as no adjustment to damping is being made when the settings are changed. Bugger means they'll need to come off the car!

I also have the H&R PCS fitted on my car and I'm very sutisfied.

My kit had been especially setted up by H&R in Germany for my project car. What I like most is the anti dive effect when you brake hard. That was a huge difference compared to my stock suspension.

Although I cannot compare it to other aftermarket suspension because I only had the stock one before that.

How did you get on with the suspension?

I currently have the unadjustable H&R coilovers and was looking at the H&R adjustable. I like this anti dive that Nikolaos was talking about. It is effective? I really hate this even with my current H&R's ...

And so the H&R's are just Bilstein PSS9 kits rebadged?

Cheers,
Rich.

Yep pretty much funny thing was that when H&R were contacted about one of the rear dampers being faulty in my kit they just asked that we send them directly to bilstein ..... anyhows PSS9 is a good kit.

For H&R kits H&R make the springs and use Bilstein dampers.
I have an article here somewhere in a porsche mag all about the history of H&R.
For the Bilstein kits the springs come from one of a few spring makers dependent on car make & model.

Interestingly from my suppliers experience Bilstein have a rather poor quality control setup (from 4 kits I have personally brought all had something missing when checked prior to shipping). Fortunately the place I buy my parts from knows the story and takes care of it before shipping.

One of the most common faults is for there to be no top dust caps on the dampers...

I've had kits from both and they are as good as each other.
I'd buy either of them again.
Do make a point of checking the lower damper adjusters regularly though if you change setting when you go to the track as they have a habit of breaking off.
Oh, and tip number two. Get some self amalgamating tape and wrap it around the threads below the lower rings. This will stop the damper bodies from gettin stone chipped and corroding. If this happens it is murder to adjust the platform height should you want to.

Hope that helps

Cheers,
John.

For a guide on prices, AmD price for RS4 quattro GmbH kit is £850 supplied or £1,150 fitted, both + VAT.

H&R is £825 supplied and £1,125 fitted all plus VAT.

I'll be changing soon, but undecided on which

edit: H&R arb's are extra IIRC
No sig, no RS4 anymore
