ARE CLUTCHES COVERED BY THE WARRANTY ?

Post by NATHAN » Sun Mar 07, 2004 3:23 pm

MY RS4 HAS ONLY DONE 32000 MILES, I BOUGHT IT 3 MONTHS AGO WITH 24000 MILES ON THE CLOCK. THE CLUTCH HAS BEEN ON ITS WAY OUT FOR THE LAST WEEK OR SO AND TODAY IT HAD TO BE GARAGED.

HAS ANYONE HAD CLUTCH PROBLEMS AT THIS MILEAGE ? DOES THE WARRANTY COVER THE CLUTCH ON SUCH LOW MILEAGE ?

I WOULD UNDERSTAND IF IT HAD DONE 100,000 MILES !!

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE COST OF REPLACEMENT IF THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER IT ?

REGARDS

NATHAN

Hi Nathan

No not under warranty, on my second at 64k, well being replaced at the moment

First one was changed when gearbox failed around 38k miles, second being fitted as engine is outa nd turbos being replaced. IMHO the turbos failed because a piece of spark plug fell off into my engine

And i find it is out of warranty, tossers, as Audi fitted the spark plug which isnt due for replacement until 80k

So you got no chance with a clutch

Approx dealer cost is £1200

Good luck

Yo dude!

How's it going mate? Long time no see!! It's got to be 10yrs at least. I will have to catch up with you next time I'm down in the Midlands.

Did you buy from an Audi dealership? If you did, then they may possibly put a contribution towards the work to be done if you haven't had the car that long. Always worth asking.

See you soon

I had a new one at 37k miles - while they were doing the gearbox under warranty. it wasn't strictly speaking needed just yet but they said that the old one wouldnt have been long for this world - got them to do it for cost of parts (200-odd £).

Just had my first clutch at 55,000 miles. It hadn't gone completely, but as there was work in that area anyway it seemed like a steal at just under £300 (Parts only).

The 1st owner of my RS4 needed the clutch replaced at 25K. The car was still within the 3 year warranty period. The Audi dealership and Audi UK refused to replace the clutch saying it was due to his driving style.

The guy argued that he has had (I think) 4 or 5 brand new Audis, all top performers of their time and has never put a clutch out of a car until the RS4.

Neither dealer or Audi UK would budge. Now that is poor customer service. He was seriously considering legal action he was so furious. In the end he said feckya to Audi and bought a Jag instead!

Interestingly I was so paranoid about the clutch I was sure there was slight guder on release and contacted both the dealer who replaced the clutch and Audi UK to confirm that the standard 24month parts and labour applies to the newly fitted clutch which they said it would.

With hindsite I should have got that in writing. I suppose it's not too late but after 4K of miles the clutch is ok so I'm not fussed. :)
