S5 Coupe for sale - Tiptronic, Sprint Blue

Post by Phil3103 » Sat May 14, 2011 4:20 pm

After some fantastic times in the S5, I'm selling up. Change of job means I can walk to work so the amount of motoring I'll be now doing doesn't justify, or do justice, to the superb car currently on my drive.

So, the spec is:

Tiptronic gearboxm Sprint Blue, 19" S5 wheels, silk nappa silver coloured seats, aluminium inlays, Blue Tooth, DVD say nav, Bang and Oulfson speakers, cruise control, auto dimming mirrors, auto folding mirrors, AMI, CD changer in dash, xenons, DAB, memory seats, heated front seats.

The cars done 37k and is in showroom condition. I wash it every week (touch-less wash using snow foam) and it gets clay bared 3 times a year with AG HD Wax added. I don't drive it in the winter where possible to avoid getting the grit and snow on the underbody. My dealer recently commented that he'd never seen a cleaner example of a 3 year-old Audi.

Just been into Manchester Audi for its first MOT and (as you would expect) it passed without any advisories. Wheels have about 5mm on all round. Have recently had a full four-wheel alignment (a proper £150 job and not a high-street) done for my own peace of mind.

Full Service including oil change and brake fluid change etc just carried out.

Audi warranty until end of July 2011. I have the option to extend the warranty (with various excesses available) and would be happy to facilitate any buyer's purchase of the extra year of warranty which will include Audi Assist.

Comes with all original manuals, Service book, quick start guides for S5, two keys.

Looking for sensible offers around the £30k mark. Going to be going on PHs soon but thought I'd quickly put it up here first.

PM me if you're interested. Happy to e-mail over more photos. I'm based in south Manchester.

April, May, or July 2008 '08' plate? Have you had a look at others on Pistonheads or the Audi used car locator?

Registered at the end of May 2008. Sorry, I should've mentioned that.

It was my local dealer that suggested the sort of price given the condition of the car. As I said open to offers.

Would rather it went to an enthusiast so please feel free to make offers. Ask questions if you like.

OK, so my dealer was over-egging it if I want to sell this car this side of Christmas. Maybe he meant that's what they'd retail it at.

Does £27k sound more realistic?

Open to comments for anyone on here who's in the know and can make useful suggestions?

I've got it on PHs. Is there anywhere else I should be putting it up? Keen on a quick sale.

Pricing it sensibly for a quick sale is wise when they are dropping about £450 month on month according to Glass's. Rather than offend you by saying my opinion of what you car will sell for, look through EVERY ad on Pistonheads and the Audi car configturator. Remember nobody is going to pay more for your car than a similar car at a dealer - Audi or indy. Yours is a high miler considering it's not 3 years old - likewise nobody is going to pay more for you car than example with significantly fewer miles. You also have to bear in mind that the number of buyers wanting the combination of Sprint blue and tip is going to be small.

Having recently sold an S5 i know there not selling to well. Mine was 08 black 24k and it was absolutely mint. Dealers where offering between 22.5 and 25k :assflash: Ended up selling for 25.5k just to get rid as it was loosing money every week. Trouble is there are alot of cheap S5s about and the mpg i think is putting people off. Hope you have more luck than i did but if you want a quick sale you might have to be prepared for a big hit :assflash: :beerchug:

Guys, thanks for the comments. Ian - no offence will be taken, I've always found on here we're an honest bunch and if you've got an opinion please say as it will at least give me an idea of what others are thinking, 'others' being my potential market I suppose!

I've been through EVERY 08 S5 on pistonheads and the results are in. Given the price seems very affected by whether sat nav is in there, the figures below are for the cars I identified as having satnav (whether DVD or HD):

Tiptronic (very few - only 2 cars in fact)

Audi - 30,850 (35k on the clock)
Private - 26,950 (36.5k on the clock)

I then looked at the Audi website only. All these cars are tiptronic with sat nav also. As you can imagine, most have most of the other toys on offer too. It's quite obvious that the much higher mileage cars go for far less but it's clearly not a deal breaker in terms of what the dealers are at least asking for their cars on the forecourt.

Age Mileage Price
Apr-08 24,866 30,985
May-08 24,869 30,850
May-08 43,150 28,495
Jun-08 39,148 31,985
Jun-08 35,000 29,995
Oct-08 35,459 30,850
Mar-09 10,644 33,850

My thinking here is that the average price is around the £30k mark and so if sales at Audi get charged say £1k for the warranty, £500 for paperwork and checks on HP etc, and £1k by servicing. To put £1k across the car in profit they could be offering up to £26.5k for the car. Given it's got 12 month MOT and was only in Audi for a full service (Everything) last week (which they'll know) I'm not sure that's unreasonable. All these prices are consistent with Glasses and Parkers this month.

Anyway, I've reduced it to something more 'reasonable' based on my research on PHs. I'll leave it at that price for a few days and see if anyone bites.

Sorry, I'm being selfish. For those who want the non-tip figures too (if you're interested). I hope the table comes through ok. All prices are a normal arithmetic average. For info, average mileage across the board was 34,990. By the looks of it, private sellers (myself included) are hoping to close to dealer prices although a private seller is more likely to take a bigger hit that the dealer I suppose as these prices are only asking prices. It's unfortunate that there's not a site that details sold prices too!

Transmission
Seller Auto Manual Grand Total
Audi Average of Price 30,850 27,481 27,692
Count of Seller 1 15 16
Private Average of Price 27,498 27,498
Count of Seller 3 3
Trader Average of Price 26,450 27,089 26,961
Count of Seller 2 8 10
Total Average of Price 27,917 27,362 27,420
Total Count of Seller 3 26 29

If they offered 26.5 as a straight sale, I'd tear their arm off and run to the hills tbh!

Phone a few dealers and see what they'll give you as a straight sale. If you want to be really clever, target dealers who don't currently have an S5 on their books. Approved car sticker prices vary across the country - hence the prices the dealers will source them for are likely to vary also. When I was trying to source our Sportback, Portsmouth Audi, the closest dealer to my parents, seemed to ask more for their approved cars than other dealers. They might bid higher, for example. Independents worth calling include Fontain, German Marques and Croft.
