Christ! You must have sold that at a loss! What's the moral of the story here?

Re: 2001 (Y) Imola Yellow RS4
I think the moral is put a bloody reserve on the auction! At least what you paid for it
Heck if you'd reduced it another grand to £14,995 is would have gone
(Cos I would have bought it!)

Re: 2001 (Y) Imola Yellow RS4
I'd consider not selling if it were me regardless of the auction ending. I appreciate you have a reputation to uphold but business is business; plus I'd like to see the numbers on buyers who pull out after winning an auction. A bit of poetic justice if you ask me.
Still, I don't understand why you'd even consider selling a car like that via auction; no reserve and .99p starting price...it's a recipe for disaster IMO. The message you're giving is I'm desperate.

Re: 2001 (Y) Imola Yellow RS4
The moral of the story is to price the car more realistically to start with. As Andre mentions, slashing the prices several times sets a precedent. People will be less keen to view a 'new' car that arrives in stock - they might considering waiting to see if the price comes down.
Stunning car though. Whilst I wouldn't mind the bright colours of Nogaro Blue or Misano Red on a B5, I'm not sure I could live with Imola Yellow. I considered an older B5 RS4 when looking to buy my S4, but in the end decided the B6 was the safe bet with the potentially higher running costs of the twin turbo. However, in that condition, with such regular servicing, for that price..........
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

German Marques also sold an RS6 Plus on eBay last year, starting 99p, no reserve, so it's not the first time this process has been used. Went for £16,384.64.
I'm sure the business model must stack up. Interesting business model though !

The bay is the best place to sell a car and has a far wider audience than any forum or magazine.
I'm sure Tomson made a fair bit on this sale, regardless of the public tears

Golfather, I must say I am fairly insulted by what your suggesting, basically your saying I am full of <beep>, and that the 'public tears' as you call them, are just for effect?golfather wrote:I'm sure Tomson made a fair bit on this sale, regardless of the public tears

How much do you think we have in a car like this? It was advertised on this forum by the previous owner for £15750.00 which i thought at that time was fairly priced.
The B5 RS4 market has taken a real hit this year and all prices have been punished. Trust me at £13800.00, I am not even close to making a profit - but sometimes it is better to get rid and move on. A car stuck in stock for 90+ days is no good what so ever. Saying that, I have had a discussion with the winning bidder and we have agreed not to complete the eBay sale.

Aaron and I are not sure how to move forward with the two RS4's we have left in stock, we have quite a lot of interest in the Avus and the eBay auction created some leads to follow up on the Imola - so we shall see.
