Drive both, the RS is older and becoming more dated but has significantly better performance - it depends on whether you want to be looked at (get the S5) or want performance (get the RS)

Buy the RS4

Post by styleew1 » Sun Jun 20, 2010 6:15 pm

I just recently went through the same process you are going throuhg. I actually test drove both vehicles. Before my purchase I was driving a B5 2005 Audi S4.

The first drive was the RS4. I was fortunate enough to be alone during the test drive. I drove the car like I stole it. It is noticeably quicker than the S4 and sounds fantastic. The car also feels much more balanced and stable compared to the S4.

I then immediately drove the S5. It was a little more luxurious than the RS4. It came with the Bang Oluffsen sound system which sounded fantastic. The car looked beautiful but reminded me of the 1998-2002 Merceded Benz CLK series. It drove wonderfully but I was unable to notice much of a power difference when compared to the S4. In addition it was noticeably slower than the RS4.

I ended up purchasing the RS4 for its looks and remarkable performance. If you want luxury buy the S5. But keep in mind it may look lovely but it is not a monster on the road. In addition according to Wikipedia ther are only 10,000 B7 RS4s in the world. Only 2500 are in the US.

If you have any other specific questions let me know.

Good Luck.

I loved the performance of the RS4 and its' exclusivity.

The newer A4 and A5 cars all look too soft I think, the RS4 looks like it would kick your head in

LOL fantastic AND I agree

S5's in some scenarios do look darn s3xy just not chunky enough - arch/width wise imho. But then it IS an S not an RS

I'd have one if I wasnt fussed about the higher revving V8... (they need smaller mirrors tho as they look like ears) - on an eleflump! ok Im exagerating.

Maybe a PES S/C S5?

Just been going through this exact scenario at the mo!

I decided after driving both i wanted the RS4 as its a little more raw and my head said the residual values better!

Just love the S5 and the fact i think it stands out a little more to the average person!

Oh and the Mrs also said she preferred the RS4.......... lol

Hmmm,
Far better performance, legendary looks, a real head turner and no comparison to an S5. Every S5 owner will look on your RS4 with HUGE envy.

Drove both, the Rs4 for the last 4 years and the S5 for 1 day, on the track with the Audi Sportcars Experience,

below 4,000 rpm, the S5 has the advantages of a more recent interior, better comfort, plusher interior and quite a nice design,

passed 4,000 rpm... the Rs4 is so phenomenal that it will make you forget the S5 :thumb:

Hi i have just sold my S5 having owned it for 2 years. It is definately a good car but always left me wanting a bit more from it and the mpg is awfull if you have a heavy right foot. They are fetching nothing at the moment as i,ve just found out :assflash:

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
