I have sat on numerous occasions for several miles on the Autobahn on the limiter. (Wifes sister lives in Dusseldorf, so have doen the trip a few times :D )

I recall on the first trip my car simply stopped accelerating at 166mph (GPS) (Numbers were still increasing relatively quickly given the speed before this happened) It then flickered between 166 and 167 for the next 5 mins, before traffic interupted play. Once through the traffic, the car accelerated back in exactly the same manner to 166 / 167 mph. Seem to recall it beign bang on 7K rpm in 6th. This has pretty much been repeated on subsequent trips.

Each fast Germany trip has (co-incidently) been on pretty worn 275/30 tyres, (as opposed to non fast trips on speed limited winter tyres) which have a slightly smaller rolling diameter than the standard fit 255/35's. This may account for any variations in the max GPS speed seen.

yes mate
are you guys all wearing helmets when on the Ring? I've read it's not compulsory but highly recommended.
to my original issue abut small headroom in my car, I actually don't think I would be able to use a helmet (will try tonight anyway) so I am a bit in doubt

what do you guys think?

pretty interesting calculator http://www.wallaceracing.com/top-speed-hp.php

using 4300 pounds (3900 + 400 load) 2 passengers, etc.
speed 180 mph
Cd 0.31 (Sportauto)
area 23.4 (Sportauto)

results in 315 whp required
185 mph yeilds 340
the dyno's I have seen put the RS4 in this range ~ 320-330 for most
so a top speed of 180-185 sounds reasonable

DK the Cab has a strengthened A-pillar in the event that is does turn over.

It is not mandatory to wear a helmet on the Ring. I think you may be able to hire one from RSR (located behind the Rinhause).

If you wear a helmet in a car then your passenger has to as well and vice-verse (this is not enforced).
