I'm lucky if I get to 12 which means I'll most likely do 150/160 miles on a tank
That is pretty shocking - 60p a mile!
unfortunately since I've owned the car I haven't managed to properly calculate as I was topping up all the time.

all I know is that everytime I check the avg mpg indicator it's between 8 and 11mpg so I wouldn't be surprised if I don't even hit 180 miles per tank,

I almost always drive London streets and never drive motorways so it's fair to say that 90% of my driving relies on 1st to 3rd gear, with heavy traffic and I like to still "have fun" :biggrin3:

that's why I asked for "city drivers"....I am wondering how you can get 210miles per tank driving only in london: that seems strange, or it means you drive really calm without ever launching it?

also guys, these figures you are reporting are "up to when the car almost stops", or mileage done up to when the light comes up for reserve (which would mean you still have a good 20 miles to go)?

Managed 300 last tank, second time now. That was pretty much long distance - coming back from the south coast, then going Ace cafe and back Sunday evening. Don't use the car during the daytime for work, and I've got another vehicle for town trips, saving the V8 for the open road.

Pisquano: To start with I was filling up at around 250 miles, but finding I was only putting fifty-something litres in. Filling up with the fuel light on approaching zero I could always get 60 litres in. Now I've got a fuel can in the boot (V Power of course!) and have been running it not only through the fuel light but though zero. Biggest fill so far was 63-point-something (66 litre tank) and that was approx 15 miles after zero.

I am checking now, still using the tank as filled by Audi, gauge showing maximum when I got the car back, so I assume I had at least 63 litres in it

Well they certainly won't have put V power in! When we picked up aforementioned Sportback, Audi took us out for a 'hand over drive' (aka they had forgotten to fill it up) and drove straight passed Shell to Murco or similar.

the sense of my post was trying to understand what the miles/tank could look like with almost exclusive town usage -
some posts I've found using the search function seem to confirm I am in the same "league" as Davey_B, and driving in town only you won't even get 200 miles

Ian,

Got to say 11MPG is probably not far off the mark. All my miles have been urban so far and it's actually quite scary how much fuel I'm using. I reset the trip at the last fill up and I'm just under half a tank now having covered 80 miles. In fairness it's all slow stuff in traffic, apart from the odd blast on a country lane and no motoway miles at all yet, the oil barely gets warm enough for the 'not over 7000 rpm' light to go off most days.

I quite often get down to 8mpg in the S4 when stuck in London traffic

If I was driving exclusively around town I would have bought something more suitable than a highly tuned V8.

Paul I appreciate your opinion albeit not exactly helpful, but that's not really the point.

I am not moaning about the RS4's high fuel consumption, but just trying to understand if my town consumption is in line with what's expectable

When I was taking mine to Canary Wharf via the Blackwall Tunnel I was getting 12 to the gallon, if you get more than 150 to the tank I would consider that reasonable.

A guy at work drives a 330 auto from Maida Vale to Canary Wharf, he gets 11 to the gallon.

thanks that makes sense...
I wonder how much does the "7 litres trick" change the capacity...very little I suppose..

I still ask myself how Ice Coffe can get 210 miles driving in town, as that seems to me remarkable for London (around 15mpg)

I am still new to the car so obviously I like to do kick starts and all the rest... perhaps other drivers are being more considerate...
as I said it's rare for me to go beyond 3rd gear he he

My record low is 160 miles - during the cold spell in early 2010 and in traffic that barely averaged 10mph (a 4 mile journey used to take me up to 40 minutes).
