Poll next car: X6 vs R8

Post by cz.Garry » Thu Apr 07, 2011 1:01 pm

Hello,
after having rs4 v8 for one year I have to make decision (rs4 is already sold). I know X6 and R8 are totaly different cars but i have to decide if take supersport or SUV (and for me X6 is the most SPORT UV). I would like to know opinions of others. I dont want 2 cars. I already had and dont like it.

40k kms per year, no child etc :)

X6 4.0D
+ new car - warranty
+ fuel consumption
+ not too much provocative as r8
+ comfort
- diesel, even the best 6 cylinder, still diesel
- not sporty car

R8 V8
+ sport car
+ love V8 sound
+ feeling of driving
- fuel consumption, but who cares :)
- Servicing (s tronic need replace every 50k kms; lame carbonizing of exhaust valves etc.)
- 2 seats, no space for my RC car :(
- speeding in my country is crime
- not new car, no warranty

Thank you and have nice day

Garry

Ask yourself how often you used the rear seats in the RS4 for passengers or luggage.
If running costs such as fuel and insurance are not a factor then I struggle to see why you'd need the X6 with no children...

I would say to take the R8 as it won't lose anywhere near the kind of value as the X6 if you decide that it isn't working out. Much easier to change then should you need to.

R8 no question, the X6 will lose an absolute fortune. Run the R8 for a few years then get a 2 year old X6 if you still need to scratch that itch.

Crikey talk about polls apart (see what I did there).
We have an E70 X5 30d M sport and recently considered changing to an X6. The X6 and X5 share the same overal floor print and the only thing that is different is the height you loose in the boot. I think the front doors of the X6 are longer and the rear doors shorter but overal the dimensions are the same. What impressed me regarding the X6 is that it really does feel like a car.
Having said all of that I just cannot see why its on your choice of cars. We have the X5 as our family car and it makes total sense. I know my wife and little boy are as safe as they can be.
To spec a decent 40d will be cost you 58k ish but you will get 8k off pretty easily if you are prepared to ask.
If you dont need the room the R8's a no brainer.

For me the X6 is like Marmite... I like Marmite, but hate the X6.

What about a V12 Q7?

For me the x6 looks like you can't afford a range rover, the R8 however says I'm minted lol!

I'd pick the r8 every day of the week tbh, maybe my next car when the RS needs changing!

Does this post qualify for the most obvious question asked this month?

offtopic: i don't agree with huge car equiped with strong engine but try to race with x6m. I did it with rs4 and coulnd't undestand how this big car can be fast.
topic: im in same situation like .."im too old to ride gixxer like crazy" ....owning fast car means going fast. So I don't thing this is stupid question. Like I said before. Totaly different cars but both are good in what are supposed to be.
Btw. I dont know how hard I have to hit my own head to buy range rover :) great reliability and services over the europe. I know some "good" expiriences with RR from my friends.

sorry for my bad english

I'd seriously say forget the X6, a mate of mine had similar conundrum 2 years back. He was selling his super souped up GTI off and was pondering between the X6 and the R8. He went with the X6 and since then have sold that off after a year hating every moment of ownership and bought a GT3RS. Sold that off as well and complained that it was not a car suited for Asian roads. Guess what car he bought 3 weeks back? A R8 V10 M-tronic.......... :biggrin3:
