Interior rearview mirror

Post by MalcolmSu » Fri Jan 28, 2011 10:29 pm

anyone know if it's possible to replace just the glass in the interior rearview mirror or if it's easy to replace the whole unit? The coating on the glass on mine is peeling off and whilst it's fine in daylight it's annoying in the dark with a following car... Anyone else have same problem (peeling)?

There's a guy that sells them on ebay with the compass fonction built in. Has yours stopped dimming also then?

The LCD in mine started to appear blotchy. Did some research to see if it could be repaired - basically - very tricky and not worth the effort. I just kept on eye on ebay and eventually picked up a second hand one for £40 - simple to replace. I think they are about £150 new

I couldnt remember to be honest as it was about 18 months ago. Knowing Audi, £250 is probably right!!

Emailed them to check and unfortunately no built-in compass on that one as advertised, which is a shame, especially at that price. Slightly amusing that they are called A&E Trading. . .little things, little minds etc

That's the one, as I've just discovered. Expensive toy?

I've concluded it has. £232 from Audi so I'm looking for a second hand one. Anyone?

Keep your eye on eBay. I waited a good month before a suitable one appeared - much cheaper though.

Anyone know if this mirror on sale on ebay will fit my RS6?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTO-DIM-DIMMING- ... 2786wt_905

It says it comes with an adaptor that fits most VW/AUDI/SEAT/SKODA cars. Is it just a case of popping off the old mirror plugging in the electricals and popping on the new one?? Anyone done this?

It will mount, but the plastic surrounds won't and you'll have exposed wires.

Not only that, you'll have to get 12V and earth from the original harness, but the mirror will no longer command the wingmirror dimming.

Also the OE mirror goes clear if you put the car in reverse or the interior lights on. You won't get this either.

thanks - I'll keep waiting for an OE one to come up then ...

Starting to see why the OE one is so expensive - didn't appreciate it did all that!
