Re: Moving... Australia to the UK

A lot of the IT roles are in the Thames Valley area. Just be aware that IT jobs aren't what they used to be money wise and that 40-45K is top end. I've seen adverts for CCIEs with 5 years plus experience for 40K.

However there is signs of improvement in the market....but there is still a lot of unemployed IT people in the UK. A lot of jobs (especially developement) have been outsourced to the Indian Sub-continent. I wouldn't expect to 'waltz' into a job if I was you.

Jeff, thanks for the insight. Although I'm not a CCIE (my written CCIE I took just ran out, didnt attempt the lab) I'm at the level so looking for CCIE money...

I dont expect to waltz in, the job market here is pretty bad also and from the sounds of things, its similar right around the globe..

Intresting that CCIEs with 5yrs getting 40k, thats really bad

Just one other thing to consider. If you're going to rent for, say, c£1K per month you would be better off buying a house.
At least you'll see a return on your investment unless there is significant house price deflation. If you're renting you're effectively paying £12K per year for a roof over your heads and you'll get nothing back.

Lot's to think about and certainly a great opportunity for you both so don't let this thread put you off - just make sure you make the move with your eyes wide open and with no false illusions about what life is really like in Blighty.

We'll definately look at it , but it depends on how long we plan to be there, what your money buys you and what we actually earn..

I think with the whole overwhelming feeling of being in a new country, let alone buying a house will be more than enough fun to handle for at least a year..

Travel travel travel is the main priority

John, yep $110k. As a rough estimate, I believe I'm worth about $95k

Ill see if theres some kinda salary chart to compare the two roughly..

If you are really going to live there then an RS4 is a must. You can bring it back as well if you keep it for a year.

hey barnabas...

it would definately be on the cards but the issue is most of the RS4s by the time I get there will be long expired (too many miles, too old)

So it would have to be something newer...

On another note, I've not seen you around for a while...Was it your mate chuck with the S3? he gave me a call a few days ago.. seemed like a nice guy..
