I never got smoke unless car was stopped and started a few times cold which happened v. rarely but it did happen
My tailpipes never got sooted up, infact they are going a tiny bit rusty, that's how clean it was running
But I went for SW0090, TBH I have noticed no difference apart from high revs on start up when cold but it's not for not very long, if anything it's a tad jerkier on warm up.
I have checked my 3000-8000 rpm times and guess what, no difference.
So you should definitely insist upon SW0080 if you don't have it but if you don't have issues then stick with it

Sorry for bringing forward a relatively old thread!
Dropped my car at Camberley today, for a DRC inspection and 2 recalls that werent picked up at the last service. I suggested I might like the 0090 SW update due to lumpy cold starts and was told it will cost me £129 and a diagnostic will be run at the same time. I told them not to bother with the diagnostic, I know there are no fault codes and will find out again at service time in a few months anyway. Apparantly I have to pay the same whether I get the dianostic or not, so I will probably skip the whole idea.
Has anyone else had to pay for this before? If so how much? Seems like most people have had it for free.

Prob at discretion of dealer, if you have never been there before then I can see why they would charge, if you have spent money there before and are a regular then they may wave it, same as any business really.Has anyone else had to pay for this before? I presume you were having DRC check and recalls for free as it was?

Yes recalls definitely for free, I am not sure about the DRC yet. They couldnt find my last service on the system when they checked, which would mean the 'goodwill' part exchange would not be offered. The car had a private plate, so maybe thats the reason, anyway I can scan the service book or post it to them and that should be ok.
Guess you're right about the dealer discretion, oh well!

IMHO they are trying it on - ask to speak to Rob at Camberley Audi, he knows the situation.fletchie55 wrote:I suggested I might like the 0090 SW update due to lumpy cold starts and was told it will cost me £129 and a diagnostic will be run at the same time.

Paying was never even mentioned when I had the 0090 update done by Portsmouth Audi, just mentioned I had the rough cold start and cold running and they did it free, gratis and for nothing with no questions asked.
