Observation - Oil consumption

Post by binder » Tue Jan 18, 2011 9:38 am

My RS4 (and previous S4) used quite a bit of oil in the first 20000 miles or so (about 1L per 1000 miles) but after 3000+ miles in the RS5 it is still showing maximum. Not an issue either way, just an observation.

Check that you don't have a faulty oil sensor as mine has....my RS5 is in dry dock at West London Audi whilst they await replacement part from Germany...they have given me a TTRS to play with though!

How did you discover it was faulty? Did the low oil warning come on or was it more serious?

No great drama...the oil sensor failure light came on and the engine could not make up its mind if it needed a top up or it needed the oil level reducing!

Hope so too... after my disasterous RS6 experience I hope this to be very simple and I have every good faith in the good people at West London Audi to fix it.

Interesting indeed guys. I had about 1000 miles on mine and when I checked the oil level using the MMI it had used about one quarter. When I took it in for the 1000mile check they topped it up and now over 2000 miles on the clock it is still full. I will have to keep an eye on it I think. I was told it is not unusual for new cars to use a little oil while they bed in.
