Unless I'm mistaken however, the relative position of the wheel/tyre to knobbly is fixed and independent of the other suspension components/setup.

Extremely good point Monoi, the tyre wall should only undergo deformation when entering and exiting the contact footprint. The infamous knobbly bit is at the furthest point from the footprint, ergo, no tyre deformation?!?!
Sorry guys, but not correct. Think of the tyre and wheel as two concentric cylinders. The lateral force exerted by the road to change the direction of the car is applied to the tyre tread by the road. To transfer the shear force to the wheel (and car) the whole tyre tread is displaced laterally, deforming both tyre walls - the air pressure, and the deformed shape excert the force which is principally transmitted by changes in tension in the fibres in the tyre.

I'm not a tyre engineer, but I am a Chartered MechE .

Dave
Now that you explain it, it does make sense. and I stand corrected. Thinking aout it, I remember some ultra slow mo pictures of a f1 car hitting a kerb and the whole tyre was wobbling.

So tyre pressures are important!

Another minor aside but I've carried one of these around for the last few years. Seems reliable and accurate.

The TPMS work very well I think. I have a slow puncture on my front left wheel and the TPMS alarm goes off as soon as it hits 37 psi.

The guages are good, too, but I know which is easier to use at 150mph :)

When I change rubber I will save a few pennies and get the TPM sensors someone linked me to a few weeks ago. . .

Anyone bought these? Are they new?

I tried to but they couldn't get stock but they are the same manufacturer as OEM. If you have no luck, I bought the same ones from tyresensors.com (talk to Amy Hasson), but it still took 6 weeks to get in stock. I saved about £60 over the same Audi boxed kit.
I ran TPMSless for 2-3 months with a slow leak in one the rears, it used to do my head in even though I would repressurised before EVERY trip. Now I only check the pressures every 2-3 weeks, I usually check tyre wear at the same time.
Peace of mind motoring.

That's not much. Lower than the spec, IIRC.
