Experience of the Touareg V6
Experience of the Touareg V6
Having now decided to swap my go-anywhere-do-anything RS4 for a totally impractical SLK 55 we need to think about a new family car for general day to day use and trips across Europe.
Top of the (wife's) list at the moment is the VW Touareg V6.
Does anyone have experience of this car or know where I can read independent reviews?
Also we might think about an alternative but at the moment I can't think of any that will satisfy my fashion concious wife (We've already ruled out the A4 avant, X5, Volvo V70 and Subaru Outback). I would consider the Porshe Cayenne but it seems a lot more pricey than the V-dub for less kit.

Re: Experience of the Touareg V6
I have a Toe-rag V6, rather the wife has it.
I think it is very thirsty, have yet to get better than 20mpg!! A few teething problems with bits 'n' pieces needing replacing; new Cat for example. Car though now is performing and behaving like it should.
A little underpowered, but will sit at 100mph all day (and 11mpg) with no noticable wind noise.
I find it great on the motorway, easy to drive in town. Has a fantastic turning circle; boot is cavernous, ideal for our dog.
After service is 110%;
wife loves it. Why spend the extra for a Porsche badge!

Thanks for the comments
11 mpg at 100 is a little scary and would come as a big shock after my wifes current car (an A3 Tdi). Maybe I will have to look at an X3/X5 diesel after all
Re: Experience of the Touareg V6
So you want lots of power, room for the kids, dogs and baggage, four-wheel drive and a 'prestige' brand- the answer is obvious

Re: Experience of the Touareg V6
An RS6 is always a good plan! I still love them to bits.
But seriously, the X5 3.0 diesel is a winner. Don't even think about going for the 3.0 petrol, as it drinks just as much as the 4.4 V8. The Toureg is a thirsty bitch unless it's a diesel as well. The V10's a fantastic machine if you want that bit of power. I'm told they sound great too, but I've not heard one properly. And of course you can say you own a V10. Not many people can say that, and most'd think of a Gallardo!
Rock on

If you can drive it, I can crash it
Re: Experience of the Touareg V6
The new BMW 3.0 D engine is brilliant as it has lots of torque and great fuel economy. The new X5 with this engine is certainly the one to go for.

X5d for sure.
Out handled everything I test drove, V10 is great engine but under braked and under damped/sprung so it handles like a sack of crap.
