Time to say farewell.......

Post by kante3 » Mon Feb 16, 2004 2:12 pm

..........but not for another six months!

Ordered my new car today which has a scheduled delivery date or November 2004. Ultimately I decided that I couldn't wait for the new RS4 and even on the continent I don't expect the new car for at least another 12-18 months. I was seriously tempted and impressed by the S4 but in terms of bang-for-yer-buck I couldn't help but feel that ultimately I would be just a little disappointed.

My new car will be an SLK 55 AMG. It goes against all my principle to buy Mercedes but I have been thinking for a while about the possibility of a two seater and with 360 bhp I think the SLK will certainly have the go. Ultimately though its the combination of the engine and the drop-dead looks that have swung it.

I will now be looking for employment in my nearest hear-dressing sallon

Martin, I'm confused.

Is there an SLK 55 AMG ??
I thought it was a 32 AMG...
Given the 360bhp your quoting I think that's the one anyway.

The 55 AMG is an SL, not SLK, and is 500 bhp (oh, and twice the price !)

Btw, I know this isn't the right thread, but the v6 Toureg is a bit underpowered imho. The v8 is a good compromise.
If you test drive the Cayenne S and the Tourag V8 you will see they both drive about the same, but the fit&finish (especially the dash !) are far better in the porker.

Cheers,
John.

The SLK 55 has just been released and will be formally presented at the Geneva motor show. However, in Germany Mercedes are now selling them for November delivery. Check out:

Now comes with the V8 producing 360 bhp (a bit less than in other cars due to the exhaust length - I think. You have to admin the looks are

John, The C55, CLK55 and SLK55 have the 5.5L V8 similar to the E55, S55, CL55 and SL55 its just that these have a Supercharger as well which ups the Bhp from 360 to 500!!

I can see him now, Raul Julia, standing next to it in a modern day Gumball Rally and coming out with : "preeety carrr"

Had the last SLK. Not much wrong with it that a lot more power couldnt put right really, and you have that now

I have to confess to driving a Merc as an everyday car too It is a C32T AMG though
I bought the car after my first round with an RS4, and found it to be reasonably reliable, and although not nearly as fast, still has people looking at in a line of traffic
Still prefer the RS4 but the company will no longer fuel it for me

Very good John, but looking at the www.mercedes.co.uk site, they don't seem to do an SLK55AMG, it is an SLK32AMG ...

Hence my question, SLK32AMG, or an xxx55AMG.

It doesn't matter really, just thought maybe they'd brought out another model I hadn't heard of.

Looking forward to seeing your motor in a couple of weeks time

John,

The SLK55 has been released in Europe I think but not yet in the UK. Will arrive with the facelifted SLK.

I owned an SLK 230 Kompressor for some time. It only felt good if driven at 10/10ths. It had a strange tendancy to dart about on turn-in (other owners I spoke to complained of this too). Dynamically they are not even as good as an A4 1.8T quattro Sport.

I should add that my wife loved it - more with the roof down.

Thanks guys.

Clearly I don't know much about the merc range.
I'm still confused but I'll shut up and go stand in the corner out of the way
