CLUNKING NOISE WHEN REVERSING AND THEN MOVING FORWARD...
hey people,
ive noticed that when i reverse my car i get like 2-4 clunking sounds around the time i brake when parking in reverse and then i get the same sound when i move the car forward to adjust it...
it only happens 2-4 times then stops; what could this be? its like clunk clunk clunk...
i know for a fact that my DRC is totally FUCKED and am getting coilovers put on next week... driving with a fucked DRC is the worst drive ever id prob be better of riding through a field...

The <beep> swear filter is too broken!
Listen OP, I'd say that you're better off not worrying about this noise right now, wait until the car is getting the DRC replaced with coilovers.
Also, be sure that you replace the top mounts at the same time, consider also changing the control arms on higher milers. I'd go as far as to say do not put the coilovers on until you've got some top mounts. It'd be a PITA to replace them after the fact.
There is a good sticky post at the top of the C5 RS [this] forum. Read it.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Never heard of them, do not put them on the RS6.RS60786 wrote:FK silverline X coilovers on it which are height and damper adjustable... and the ride is fuckin excellent lol... i miss that smooth drive...
This.RS60786 wrote:also the top mounts? are they an expensive part? what about the control arms?
Call Audi regarding the control arms (about 125 notes per set IIRC) but it's probably better to assess the existing control arms when you're doing the other suspension bits.bam_bam wrote: There is a good sticky post at the top of the C5 RS [this] forum. Read it.

Yes and Yes it's an RS6RS60786 wrote:is a faulty propshaft a dangerous thing? is it also an expensive part?

Johnny, your comment caught my interest. A little off topic, but my A4 has been suffering with this 'clunking' when going backwards then forwards, like when parking or doing a 3 point turn. Also (possible seperate issue but I doubt it as they came on at the same time) I am getting a front end vibration at high speeds circa 80mph. I have changed EVERYTHING on the culprit corner (near side front); disc, pads, alloy, tyre, second hand upright even! It doesnt make a blind bit of difference. I'm wondering whether it could be the drive shaft as you've mentioned? But what the hell damages a drive shaft?!?!johnny11 wrote:i had a very simular noise on my rs6 2 years ago, i`d reverse it then get the clunk, brake on then move foward the clunk would repeat. Turned out to be a faulty propshaft, got renewed under warranty job done.
After this I cant think what it'd be!!!

Not being funny by any stretch of the imagination, but did you buy the RS6 on a budget? Seems your very keen to find the cheapest parts and are very worried about expenses / repairs. Just my observation and i may be wrong. Ive read your other threads and they seem to follow a theme.
Its times like these im glad i got out of C5 ownership. More and more examples are coming on the market with cheap repairs done using cheap parts, only to sting the next owner who will typically be on an even lower budget.
Mooch gets excited about this for all the right reasons. This is not a car to be lavished with cut price inferior discs, budget tyres or cheap coilovers. The fact is that this 450bhp, 4.5s tarmac terrorist is also a 2 tonne lump of metal that will kill you in a heart beat if the road conditions are not matched with equal or superior equipment. As an owner the hard part in this is that the correct parts cost the same money (or more) now the car is worth £10k as they did when the car was worth £70k.
Obviously we are all keen to save money where we can but quite frankly, fitting cheapo discs, shocks and tyres is utterly dangerous and i would feel fear for whoever was to buy this car from you or anyone who considered this approach to ownership.
I dont want to labour the point but maybe you want to rejig your ownership plan or consider something more suitable.
If im way off then i do appologise but im sure my feelings will be well echoed by the regulars on here.
