It is starting to take the piss a bit now. High road tax and fuel costs, yep there are pot holes big enough to tear out your suspension.

It's an absolute joke; every way I turn in this country I'm getting shafted - I hate living here. And it's only going to get worse :)

Its a lot more expensive at the service station but I had no choice and had to fuel up...was kicking myself wishing I had re-fueled before. I have a Shell station 200 meters from my house...Ironic.

This will be a rough summer. We are preparing for $7/gal here in the US.

I am not sure how you guys are gonna survive this. Gas affects everything.

V-Power is €1.58 in Germany, approx 1.32 GBP. OK it is still cheaper than in the UK but still very comparable. Another thing that happens to fuel prices here, for which your lucky not to experience is price fluctuation. I have seen a litre of fuel rise by as much a 10cts in one day. Prices changing during the daytime is common. Prices always go up when the schools are closed.

It not all doom and gloom on the island. OK not perfect but the mainland is cottoning on quickly.

It's going to double? I was in Philly last week and 91RON was $3.5 per galon there. Granted that is only 4 litres but that is still hafl the price then here in the UK.

And as for V-Power on Germany there are two; V-Power normal is 95RON and then there is V-Power Racing which is 100RON which is the equivalent to our V-Power. Even last year V-Power 00RON was 1.60 Euros per litre so no doubt is more now so they in fact pay more then we do. The only place that was cheap on the Euro tour was Switzerland. V-Power BTW has 92, 95, 98 and 100RON classifications dependent which country your are in.

Yes, I. cant imagine people would accept 7 bucks a gallon - that's doubling and would be insane - I can remember it going up to about 4.50 in 2009

When the recession first made headlines a couple years ago I thought (and still do) the best a quickest way out was a temp reduction in fuel duty - say 15-20p/litre rather the fecking about with vat three times.
Fuel costs affect everything and it's something everybody sees.

My only issue with the coallition is that one of Cameron's policy's was to have a set level on fuel so that when crude prices went up duty would fall to compensate and vice versa. Not seen anything since about what that maximum figure is / was going to be.

My strategy now is to buy a second car... due to work im now faced with a 500 mile weekly communte. For last 2 months Ive been doing this in the RS but enough is enough - depreciation on the car was my biggest concern but now the fuel bills are just beyond a joke.
Currently looking into a cheap, economical diesel to rack up the commuting miles in and save the RS for personal use - and the odd commute when I want some fun!

The next thing Im realising is you cant use your no claims on a 2nd car, and my policy doesnt allow 2 cars. So, for a 100k 1.9 diesel vectra worth £3k, the cheapest insurance I could get was £950. Out of interest I ran a quote based on the wife having it as a second car (and me named driver) - she was quoted £490 - madness.

Try admiral multicar for a additional car. We run three cars, and the third (golf gti) was basically free.

But...we had to buy the Vignette Tax...

I think we should tax the French, Swiss & Italians for using our roads...mind you, it wouldn't benefit the people of this country...
