Beware there is a thief about
RE: Stolen RS4
The incident with the Balaclava'd men was in West Putney, on a quiet street with the car parked in the driveway... Problem is you can put loads of security around the car - hydraulic poles in the driveway, cctv etc.. but if you get guys who want it that badly and break into the house, knowing you're there - then they're pretty serious.. and generally stealing to order.
Agree with post above - Best thing seems to be serious security around the house - alarms etc. which make noise and light. Just to try and minimise the amount of time they have to break in, and maximise the amount of time available to set the call to the police underway...

Does look good Wolfgang. Can I ask if you've mounted it in view as a deterrant or is it far enough away the intruders can't get to it?I have just invested in a Y-Cam Knight SD wireless security camera to keep an eye on my pride and joy. It has built-in infra-red LEDs for night vision and a micro-SD card slot. You can log into the camera video stream from anywhere in the world and also set up alarms if it detects motion. I have set mine up to record a short video and take a picture every time it detects motion. You can also have triggered snapshots emailed to you.
How long did delivery take?
Cheers

A baseball bat will be viewed as an offensive weapon by plod, whereas if you just happen to have a panel saw lying around after doing a bit of DIY................ Do you fancy trying to grab one when it's being waved in your face???Borgelite wrote:aka_dk wrote:get a gunBorgelite wrote: Amen to that brother. I had serious thoughts of getting one. Settled for a baseball bat instead.

Wolfgang, it looks a bit discreet IMO. Does it have a flashing LED in it or something?

1. To deter would-be thieves - the infra red LEDs emit a red light at night which would be slightly visible to anyone walking by. The camera is mounted high up so cannot be reached easily. One point to note is that the LEDs on the camera itself will reflect off a window if you use it inside lookng out so you'll need an external infra red light source pointing out from another window for proper night vision when pointing the camera from a window looking out to your car.
2. To capture images when motion is detected. This is an incredibly useful feature as I can browse the contents of the SD card from wherever I am in the world.
3. To access live video images from anywhere in the world. This is very reassuring as I can view my car 24 hours a day from anywhere if I have an internet or mobile phone (3G) connection. There is an iPhone and Android app for smartphones to view the camera remotely as well as just using a browser from a standard PC/laptop.

Gone to the dark side
It comes with a mains adapter for power. Initially you connect the supplied ethernet cable between it and your PC to set it up (i.e. configure the wireless connection to your broadband router). After that you can set it up anywhere where you have a mains power adapter nearby (the power cable is around 8 feet in length so you many need a mains connection cable). The power adapeter has different interchangeable pins for use around the world.
Then you simply need an internet connection from your broadband router to the outside world. If your router supports uPNP (Universal Plug and Play) then it will automatically set up the required port forwarding so that you can access the camera from the internet. You are given a URL to use for this purpose.
So, to summarise, you'll need to provide a PC, a mains socket and a broadband router connected to the internet. You get all the other bits you need in the box.
You can set up multiple cameras and access them from a single application.

You want to change the locks in your house as well - if you have euro style

That's how they got in mine. Sorry if you didn't know about this, but it really is that simple to break into most houses in the UK, and I didn't know until the morning I got up. Alarming isn't it. Quite how or why it's still legal to fit crap locks is beyond me.
Buy some of these: http://www.avocet-hardware.co.uk/cylinders.asp

Before rushing out to buy this particilar model AND if getting power to the camera is going to be a problem when locating it:
Consider buying a camera which is "POE" complant (Power Over Ethernet).
In a nutshell the camera takes it's power from the network cable itself, without the need for a local power supply.
At the other end of the ethernet cable (where it connects to your router /PC etc, you'll need either a POE power supply or some routers/switches have them built in)
Makes for a much neater and more flexible solution.
Edit: Like this one:

Not wireless.... but then it doesn't need to be as the ethernet cable is supply both the network connection AND the power.
Again... maybe easier to run a network cable than a new mains supply.
Plus, a cabled network will always be more robust/reliable and secure... than a wireless network
Just a thought
