Sat Nav Update?
Any ideas on best place to purchase an updated disk?
Went for a jaunt around the green isle and half the motorways are not on it!

I got the 2011 disk in November from a contact in Belgium. The maps have been updated (an error I reported to Navteq 6 years ago has finally been fixed), but no new software for the RNS-E fitted to the RS4 (that went obsolete with 2010 models when it was replaced with a new version that uses different software, so Audi will not be issuing any more software updates only map updates).Rick_RS4 wrote:theres a guy selling copies or the real one on audi sport for 40 quid
Using copy DVDs reduces the life of the laser reader since copies are harder to read, which makes the laser overheat. I've seen several hundred people have to replace their lasers because of this - think carefully abiut buying a copy, it may be a false economy.

thanks for the info, ill call audi tomorrow and order one

Are you really sure of the root cause ?PetrolDave wrote: Using copy DVDs reduces the life of the laser reader since copies are harder to read, which makes the laser overheat. I've seen several hundred people have to replace their lasers because of this
The reason why I ask is that reading a carefully executed copied DVD is not more difficult than a slightly dirty or mildly scratched factory DVD. Taking into account that such cases are supposed to be supported I can hardly imagine a serious company releasing a unit that would overheat in such conditions.

Yes, based on the experience of several thousand RNS-E owners - the overwhelming majority of failed lasers have been users of copies, very few have been users of only genuine DVDs.nidfix wrote:Are you really sure of the root cause ?

can someone explain me what is the exact part number for an original 2010 or 2011 disk?
I see quite a few different things on-line and can't understand precisely which one to go for...
what does BNS stand for?
dare I say the cost for an official DVD is outrageous considering you get a quite decent stand-alone navigator/speed camera detector for the same price!!

2010 8P0 919 884 AN
2011 8P0 919 884 AT
Basic Navigation System - up to BNS 4.0 this didn't have a separet screen and just displayed turn directions on the DIS. BNS 5.0 is basically a stripped out monochrome screen version of the RNS-E.pisquano wrote:what does BNS stand for?
