Any more news on the S4 Cab

Post by 18ME » Sun Nov 30, 2003 10:26 pm

Has anyone heard anymore regarding colour choices an spec on the S4 cab yet. I can't seem to find anything anywhere new, and there is no point asking the dealer as they don't seem to know as much as us until the car actually arrives.

seen one @ IAA in september. Nice, but not mind-blowing. Now driving it with the S4's V8 sound in your ears with the fresh air in your hair, that will probably be a whole different story then the looks alone...

Got the brochure through this weekend.

Am not concerned that I cancelled the order as it doesn't look special enough IMHO

Sliver with Red seemed to work pretty well though...

No, its not exactly an extravert but thats how I would like it, a bit like me.

Black with silver leather will be very classy.

Agree with you 18ME.

It is an understated car. Plenty of toys, comfort, grunt, four seats and looks okay. Certainly better than a CLK cab for example.

Anyone bought / test driven yet?

So what is it about the S4 Cab that has put people off from buying?

This is after all the first S - Coupe for many years.

Subjective opinions on the vehicles' looks aside - whats not to like?

I'm sure charges of sexism will soon be levelled but I personally think that the S4 cab falls between two stools: a V8 engine seems to be more of an XY thing and the looks of the S4/A4 cab more of an XX thing. If I wanted "brute" performance I would also want "brute(ish :? )" looks. There aren't that many laydeez around who will appreciate the V8 and there aren't many fellas who want to be seen in the S4 cab.

Having said that, I think it's a pretty good car. I had half an hour in an AMD stage 3 version and was pleasantly surprised by the rigidity. With the Millteks on board, the soundtrack is how it should be and peak torque certainly arrives earlier than on the unmodded S4.

I keep trying to persuade my sister that it fulfills her automotive requirements....

Agree with everything you said DocB. Made me chuckle, especially your last sentence, because I am trying to "persuade" my mother into one. It would be highly borrowable! She isnt too thrilled though. Reckons now that it looks bulbous.

The acid test will arrive soon with the vehicular equivalent of wife swap when I take the family on holiday to Jersey. I'll have the fat boiler (my sister's Ford Galaxy :boohoo: ) in order to seat 6 and my sister will be borrowing my S4 (I'll leave you to make your own metaphors in order to avoid contoversy - oh hell, let's say the slightly-sexy-but-don't-want-to-admit-you-think-so upper middle class housewife) for a couple of weeks.

If she don't like the experience then I think the stage 3 S4 cab will never grace her commuter belt driveway.

And bulbous :? is a new one on me. I'd have thought that bulbous might appeal to the fairer sex :bigblink: . But then again...

"she's your mum, dude" so I don't want to say too much. :bash:

Why not arrange a good deal on a cab so she feels like she's saving money when splashing the cash for a £40k motor  ?

Yikes, need to calm down on the emoticons, but I guess that's what a good malt whiskey does to you.

Well the local dealership were <beep> about arranging a test drive so have lost the deal. A 320 CLK Cab arrives in September. Was all I could do to talk her into wheels and suspension upgrade.

I despair :audibash: :bash:

Anyone see Top Gear the other week? They test drove the cab and loved it. Funny how motoring journalists can all be so different in their opinions - I remember spotting a review of the S4 cab in What Car or Autocar a while ago & they gave it a disappointing 2/5. Those 2 mags seem to always have it in for Audis; remember the "M3 beats S4 in the wet & the dry" test they did? Yet old Clarkson & co seem to love 'em....

Hi Tim

Sad to hear that there are still hopless dealers out there... :x

Did you tell them that you'd gone to another brand?
