Re: S4 Tyres
last tyres for me were GoodYear F1 225 40 ZR18, really good tyres IMHO, made 25'000km with them without any prob. Now just ordered Bridge S03 since few friends told me they are also great type of tyres..
Re: S4 Tyres
OK, this is not experiences for the Audi S4 but may be useful.
My dads car was fitted with Kuhmo Ecsta 712 tyres when he bought his (now 300 bhp) Volvo 850R. He managed 15k miles on them but the car always exhibited major understeer. This may be due to chanelling too much power through only 2 wheels!!
He recently took advice from the EVO magazine tyre test 2002 results and decided to change to F1 GS-D3 all around and said that his wet and dry weather grip was drastically improved. Can't comment on wear comparisons yet...too early to tell. The 712s did wear well and they are very cost efective but they are not the grippiest tyres out there.

Re: S4 Tyres
Well...
They are easily as good as Contisports and Toyo. Probable a little behind SO3 But then the Bridgestones are probable twice the price and last 1/2 as long.....This way I can afford to run an extra set of rims with trackday tyres
Volvo 850R are always going to understeer.....it's a Volvo after all.
Anyway, you pays your money etc

Re: S4 Tyres
Micheldever did his F1 GS-D3s for <£390 all in. (215/45ZR17).
Strangely enough, most understeer now cured unless your right foot is too heavy mid-bend (like mine )

Re: S4 Tyres
Ian,
Try www.tyresave.co.uk as well. They are up north, but they can deliver. Useful to compare prices at least.

Re: S4 Tyres
Thanks David - have you made a decision on the RS4 wheels yet?
Re: S4 Tyres
Morning Ian,
We are still not 100% sure they will fit (8.5 wide instead of 8 for the replica') so I am going to try them on the car at AmD next week sometime.
If they fit great, otherwise I will get a replica set from AmD like yours.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: S4 Tyres
I've got Bridgestone S03s. I was shocked the other day to find that the rears need replacing after 6 months. I'm sure I've not done more than 6K and 99% of my driving is done on dual carriageway!
The car came with 4 Pilots over a year ago, but I had to replace the fronts and chose F1s. (I didn't realise then that you're not supposed to mix on the Quattro’s.) The rear end was forever stepping out. So I replaced them with So3s. (I was let down when my local supplier who couldn't supply a set of F1s for the rear when he promised and I was desperate for tyres so I was forced to fit SO3s. The rear grip wasn't significantly improved. I liked the Goodyear F1's. But on reflection I'd say they were prone to understeer. But now that I have So3s all round I get very little understeer but now the rear end steps out. I started another thread on the Audi sport net site about Quattro handling characteristics. I'm not convinced the rear of my car is ok and the rapid wear of the rear tyres would seem to confirm this despite a 4 wheel alignment check. Hhmm So3 or F1s. Next set I think will be a full set of F1s

Re: S4 Tyres
I've got the F1's and can't complain, they weren't new when I got the car, and I've put 10,000 on them, they still look good though I suspect the Castle Coombe track day in April will see them off (good timing really)
They seem to have a good balance between grip and wear.

Re: S4 Tyres
I'm a Toya man myself, and 8.5 x 18's fit just fine for me, even with the porsche brakes behind em.
