Puncture - new tyre advice

Just had a puncture on the rear right. I say puncture, by the time I realised, the entire inner edge wall of the tyre has split from the reset of the carcass :-/ Looks a bit like a spectacular F1 tyre failure.

Car has done about 9,200 miles and has the original Dunlop Sport Maxx fitted all round.

Will I be ok just replacing the dead tyre with a new Sport Maxx or are there any other suggestions or advice?

Hmmmm tough call as at 9,200 they'll be quite a bit of wear and you shouldn't just replace one due to the quattro.

I've got the same tyres (admittedly on a 2.0T) and although they come out quite well in tests I just don't fine them that hot in wet weather. Not sure what I'd switch to though.

I'd either get 2 new Dunlops for the rear, or swap all 4. I swapped from the fitted Pirellis after they wore out way too quickly to Michelin PS2s, and amazingly they last longer in 19" guise than the 18"s I had on my B6 S4 - well over 20k miles and I don't hang about round corners

I had a look at the existing rear tyre and it's still got around 5mm on it. Given that the new tyre only has 8mm of tread I'm not going to spend another £220 to replace a perfectly good tyre.

The new one is exactly the same spec as the old one (Dunlop Sport Maxx GT)

Replace both tyres and sell the part worn on Ebay.....with just 9,200 miles you'll get good money....people buy them for track days etc.

I got £120 for 2 almost bald 235/35 19 off my old Boxster from a guy looking for track tyres for his M3.

I'd swap the new tyres on the front too.......

My next set will be Vred Sessantas.......

Fair enought but do it knowing that it's against all the Audi advice and that that you've got on this forum.
