Wheel Cleaning Question
Wheel Cleaning Question
Just had 4 new tyres fitted; any top tips for getting rid of the old very sticky gunk where the old wheel weights were stuck on? Must needs something pretty harsh and abrasive to shift it?
RE: Wheel Cleaning Question
Try Autoglym Engine and Machine Cleaner. I've used that to get rid of hardened tree sap on paintwork, yet the product is safe on plastics. It's a heavy duty degreaser so should be strong enough to dissolve the glue residue. Spray on liberally, leave for 5-10 minutes and then use an old towel or rag to wipe off. Repeat and then thoroughly rinse the alloy.
Your other option is to use a strong household cleaner something like Cillit Bang.

Autoglym machine cleaner doesnt touch the little tar and brake dust spots though,Autosmart tardis seems a quite strong acid based product? Whats the general opinion on this? My wheels are in for the full treatment over crimbo and i wouldnt mind buying/trying some new products,in the tardis write up it says it can eat into fresh paint,my wheels were refurbed by lepsoms in the summer will they be ok?
I've used Tardis for a couple of yeas now with no ill effects. I don't use it every time I clean the car though maybe every six months.
Bilberry by Valet-Pro is great for wheels it's non acidic so is good for your rims. It even smells nice!
For protection I use Poorboy's Wheel Sealent then apply a coat or two of wax over the top.

Red P21S is the best I have tried, smells like mouldy rubbish but very effective !Phil3103 wrote:Do the products mentioned here work on getting rid of (very) well established brake dust and blobs of tar too? What do you chaps use when you get the wheels off to clean them properly before applying the sealant?
