RS4 in the snow
I have had my winter tyres fitted and I can't believe how sure footed it is now, the Goodyears I had on were OK, but now its fantastic, I really would recommend winter tyres to anyone who doesnt want to let this snow and ice effect day to day driving

Couldn't agree more. This is the 4th winter my "winter tyres" have been on the car. What a difference they make - stunning. More with braking and steering than anything else.I have had my winter tyres fitted and I can't believe how sure footed it is now, the Goodyears I had on were OK, but now its fantastic, I really would recommend winter tyres to anyone who doesnt want to let this snow and ice effect day to day driving
PS Klauster, just out of interest, how did you get on with Barney and Hayseldens? A good job I trust.....

On Crispy's point. What sort of wear can I expect to get out of them? Obviously depend on conditions and how long we have snow but do they really last 4 years?Couldn't agree more. This is the 4th winter my "winter tyres" have been on the car.

My car has now done about 42K miles and its a March 07, so approx 950 miles per month. I put the winters on around Dec, and take them off around April so approx 4.5 months / season means they have lasted around 12,500 miles so far. Not sure they will make it through this year, but were measures at last months service at 4mm all round. No idea how deep the tread was when they were new, but they looked like something that would be more at home on a tractor!
I have been very impressed with the life of them, as I only get around 12k out of my summer tyres, and tend not to hang about too much.

I hasten to add that I thought they were pretty expensive at £200 per cortner when I bough them, but when I checked on mytyres last week, they were showing at over £350 a corner!!
For reference I have been running the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D in 255/35/R19 size.
I think the next set will be the Wintrac Extremes at a more reasonable £190 / corner

I was going to give mine to the Mrs but she has enough spare tyres.

The cost of them is something to factor in, I got conti winter contacts, cant fault them as yet, and for £125 a corner they were a bargain if you ask mecrispy wrote:I hasten to add that I thought they were pretty expensive at £200 per cortner when I bough them, but when I checked on mytyres last week, they were showing at over £350 a corner!!
