Insurance - where to go for decent cover at decent price?

Post by MidSussexMassive » Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:06 pm

OK, Gp20 (or whatever the new insurance rating is nowadays), but with usually the full security package, maximum NCB, no convictions, no points (there is a Lord), low risk countryside area, driveway (cannot build a garage as AONB....D'oh!) and get on to Admiral. Admiral, who we have been with for many, many happy years, transfer us to the Indian call centre....the problems start. Please bear in mind that neither of us have a racist bone in our bodies, but when it comes to insurance you have to be 100% careful otherwise (in the event of anything happening) - they have you over a barrel.
Q. "What is the make and model of your car?",
A " 2009, Audi RS6 Saloon"
Q"Can you spell that?"
A" What? Audi or RS6?.....A...U...D....I....R...S....6"
Q. "That is 4.2?"
A."No, I don't think they do the 4.2 anymore it is 5.0 V10 TT".
Q "Thank you for your response. Does it have any after market additions"
***This is where the problems start as we bought the car after 12 months and the original guy bought everything and anything extra****
A. "It has a Solar sunroof"
Q"Thank you for your response. A solar sunroof? That is a sunroof?" (knowing that if some idiot puts a traffic cone through it you only would get back the price of standard (if applicable) sunroof)
A "No, it it quite clever - solar panels - supposed to keep the car cool when the engine is not running"
Q" Thank you for your response. So it is a sunroof? Anything else?"
A. "No, it is a very special solar sunroof. Please add it as an extra - they are about four grand (?) new. It has ceramic brakes"
Q" Thank you for your response. Cermaic brakes? What are cermaic brakes?"
A. "They are an optional extra. Like you asked - supposed to be very good and help stop the car better - so they are better for the insurance?"
Q. "Thnak you for your response. Brakes, ceramic? I don't understand"
A. "Please just add them, now there is a jukebox and a satellilte TV"
Q. "Thank you for your response. TV.....you have a TV in the car.....? Satellite TV"
******I hang up and write a letter to Admiral as when the quote arrives it has a 4.2 2009 model shown*******
Anyway, I could go on and on.....and on.....and on.....they are very good and reasonable (<£550 F/Comp with <£200 excess) but it is getting beyond a joke (a joke they could invalidate the insurance?)
Cheers.

Q. "What is the make and model of your car?",
A " 2009, Audi RS6 Avant"
Q" Lovely 5L V10 Sir ... Can you send us a list of all the factory add ons you ordered just for completeness ? They will of course all be covered
A" yes sure ..
Q. "we will need a tracking alarm system
A."No probs its getting the Cobra System installed
Q "Perfect" .. Its going to cost you "about same as your quote .. my excess is 500 quid however"
Ex RS6 C6 Driver, gone but not forgotten.. The best car I have ever owned

I've just re-insured mine RS6 with Admiral, and they didn't seem too bad to me.

I am paying just under £2000 though!!!!

Greenlight.

They only insure modified cars though, so you'd have to get it tuned.
RS6 Saloon (C6), Daytona Grey, Ceramic Anchors, MRC Mapped, High-Flow Filters, De-Cat Millteks, MRC Gearbox Map.

757bhp, 713 lb/ft torque.

Q7 V12 6.0 TDI, Ice Silver, Bang & Olufsen, 21" wheels, Ceramic Anchors, K&N Filters, MRC Mapped .

600bhp, 917 lb/ft torque

and only cars under £30k in value. Wouldn't even insure my lowly B7 RS4.

Ceramic brakes, sunroof, nav, tv etc are not things you need to mention as they are fitted from factory and are not classed as aftermarket additions.
Your car is standard to oem specification as far as insurance companies go.

thats what i thought. im insured with admiral and never got asked for that. mines fully loaded with ceramics solar roof etc... perhaps it got lost in translation, my understanding is they will ask you if youve had modifications done to vehicle post leaving factory, not OEM fit.

Maybe it's because I've been with them for some years but they have insured some pretty expensive cars for me without any issue.

You are fortunate then as I was advised the same 5 years ago by them when they eventuially insured my modified B6 S4 as well.

Blimey! Only been driving since 1989 and I never knew that. I have always listed out everything that was not 'standard' - wonder how much extra I have paid over the years.....D'oh!

The clue was "after market additions" and you started listing factory options, which are obviously not after market or dealer fit. if it's in the options list then you should not have to declare it.
