I've just bought some of the new more value priced Nexen Winguard Sport's for my S4, haven't fitted them yet but they look great and the reviews of them seem pretty good, they were £98 a tyre delivered in 235/40/V18's. Don't know if they do them in an RS6 size.

No matter what after doing a tonne of research it seems like a really sensible way to go, I will report back after the winter and we'll see.

Oh and I got mine from Pneus Online, I was going to buy tyres from mytyres but the wh0res put the prices up £55 per tyre on the ones I was going to buy just because winter is coming, they don't do that on summer tyres when summer is coming. I will never be using mytyres!

I've been thinking 245 for the '6, it'll be good to have a bit of sidewall again too! These roads are getting hectic.

Ahhh, me so sorry, me see your point. The Wintracs won't hold the wight of a '6. So it's gotta be 255/35/19R 96 W XL

The 245s come close with a 93 load index if you wanna risk it. 245/35R19 93W XL

the winter tyre size for the '6 is 225/45x18 95V, and although its not 96 load rated, or Y speed rated, they're homologated with the R01 code. To my knowledge, there isn't a 96Y winter tyre in that size.
You just have to remember not to go faster than 149mph and make an insurance claim simultaneouusly....
I would consider 255/35x19 winter tyre, but going to any other size is a bit risky, in my opinion.

I would prefer to have a set of 18" 9 spokes for winter Tyres.

Anyone got an OEM set for sale?

Since I couldn't find any wheels that fit I did go and buy 255/35/19 96V winters, Pirelli 240 sottozero II. 240 quid a pop here in Moscow and another 75 for mounting and balancing 4 of them :(

A rarity in which way Phil? can you not track down the Wintrac (Vreds) 245/35/19s? I imagine these would start to get very scarce on the shelf with the mercury dropping.

JC - *sucks air through teeth* Pricey! Are those show tyres or winter all-rounders? I'd have thought Russia would have a good selection of winter tyres but I guess prices are always going to be expensive on the premium stuff over there. I guess 255 is a lot of meat for a winter tyre.

I justified the cost of winter tyres by telling myself
- I'm only driving on one set of tyres at a time, so no extra cost of rubber
- my cheaper winter wheels can bear the brunt of salt and potential kerbing if it gets really slippery
- the small cost of cheap wheels (which is all it costs in reality) would be easily offset by the smallest of knocks on the bodywork if I slid on summer tyres..!!

Yeah as much winter tires as you want m8, do you want them in 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18 inch? I hope not 19 because then you'll have to search all over moscow to find 4 of them in stock! :( Not counting big 19+ in SUV tires.

The Pirelli sottozeros are real winter/snow tires. No good for summer, not decided yet if I'll have them removed from the rims or get some different 19s for summer.

Another vote for the Vredestein Wintracs, I put 255/35/19's on mine last year in preparation for my trip to Glen Coe, Scotland. The car and the tyres were awesome in the snow, I was most impressed.

And only checking - were they compatible with the "Nobbly Bit"?

Finally got round to fitting the winter alloys this weekend, so did a quick before and after in a local car park and was impressive again. Thought I had four Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme on there, but forgot two are the Dunlop Winter Sport M3. When the latter wear out (<4mm for winters) at the end of this season I will go for the Nokian WR G2, they are meant to be the very best brand out there and just released 225/45/18s.

Did notice this though...

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Wi ... panies.htm

I selected OEM spec wheels for this very reason. It is an utter disgrace they are upping premiums for some drivers!
