Power loss

Post by DuncS3 » Sun Feb 01, 2004 4:48 pm

Today, i was driving down a bypass, put my foot to the floor in 4th or 5th gear at about 80 and 4K rpm and was thinking to myself how well the car pulls when around 5K rpm the car noticeably seemed to lose power. Not like a total power loss just that the revs were slower to move and you could feel the car was no longer pulling hard. It then came back on and I have spent the last half hour trying to recreate with no real luck.

I have experienced this before, but only about 2-3 times in maybe 5 months.

I never ever noticed this behaviour until after I had changed my DV to a AMD Viper valve - It may not be related in any way, but thats what I think it is - maybe the DV needs a service?

Does anyone have any ideas as to causes?

As I say it hardly ever happens but I'm interested to get to the bottom of it.

Well it happened about 2-3 times but very very rare and i could not get it to happen again when the dealers engineer came out for a spin.... i explained it seems like the turbo was losing its boost.... on/off.

I mentioned to him that it could be the MAF as there is no real way of diagnosing a faulty MAF as VAG computers dont interigate the sensor to show if its working or not.

The engineer nicely changed it over under warranty and the car felt so much better afterwards.

Only the slightest bit of dirt can contaminate the small sensor meaning it wont callculate the correct airflow to the engine.... which in turn pulled back the boost.....

Well it sounds like the same thing, when the power loss comes in the first thought is that the turbo has stopped!

AMD mentioned something about my MAF when I got poor results on their RR, although when I have logged the MAF on other occasions it has been fine.

I will pursue this path though, cheers Riz

I'm going to get the DV serviced, cheapest option. Also i have logged my MAF and it has always been okay. Interestingly I posted on tt-quattrom forum and a few people (different remaps too) say they have experienced this behaviour from time to time.

Anyway, its very rare in occurence so not a major issue at all.
