recommended alarm system?

Post by sash » Fri Jan 30, 2004 4:44 pm

looking for advice on a good alarm system. There are so many around with so many features its hard to decide. I really want realiablity (dont want it to go off for no reason in the middle of the night), preferably a pager system, tilt sensors and a knock sensor. I have seen systems that allow you to track your car yourself and also systems that allow you to disable the car by sending it a text message. Thing is I dont know anyone with this type of alarm Any one here that has one?

Any recommendations and can anyone recommend an installer?

Thanks

How easy was it to get the information to enable you to link into the existing alarm, locking and immobiliser circuits etc.?

thanks perterb. Found a deal on a Clifford Concept 600 including pager and installation all for £600, seems like a good price but im gonna keep looking.
Was a little concerned about the fact that autowatch says it only lasts six months on your car battery. Does this mean you gotta change the car batt every 6 months?

Are you saying that you don't expect to drive your car at least once every six months?

from Autowatch:

"Autocate 800 can be installed into any vehicle, boat, outhouse etc. that has a 12 or 24 volt power supply, can be run from a car battery for up to 6 months or more depending on battery specifications"

yeah,i think may be i got the wrong end of the stick.

TrakM8 offers vehicle tracking with SMS-based alerting and can also interface to the cars electrics to act as an immobiliser.

thanks Nige_S4, ive heard about TrakM8, in fact im sure i read a thread on it in this forum. What i would like is the features of the TrakM8 along with the features of the Clifford concept. It may be asking for too much but i think that would be an excellent alarm system. Im surprised they didnt put those features into the new G5 alarms.

i have a cd with fitting instructions for a4,all wires seemed to be the same.i just needed to find an output on the original alarm to switch it on and off.you can also switch it on via text message,so if the alarm was switched off the system would still be active.
