I'd like to hear some feedback from owners, though. Especially those that have moved from a B7 RS4, as I'm thinking of going S4 Avant or S5 Sportback ...

I did that last week. B7 RS4 Avant to B8 S4 Avant.

So far I am very happy with the change. It's a different proposition obviously but one I decided to try and so far I am happy. Went with S-Tronic, auto for the first time. Again I am happy with my choice.

My haves are Tech High (HDD Nav) and auto key thingy...just leave the key in your pocket.

Mine has 4.5 years warranty too.

I reckon over time I'll be able to drive it as quick as the RS4....just need to get used to it.

Out of curiosity, how are you getting on with the electronic hand brake. Have driven a few cars with this and found being stuck in traffic on a hill is a real problem if you have a manual gearbox, not sure if being an auto makes it any better?

There is an option of hill hold assist which basically puts the hand brake on automatically when you come to a rest.

The auto handbrake self releases on mine (Auto).

I have hill hold assist and it's great when you are in traffic and on hills......is a bit annoying when manouvering into a tight space so have to turn it off for that.

I've got a 2010 2.0T Avant and due to the Stop/Start I couldn't get Hill Hold Assist.

I had it on my 2009 B8 and really miss it.

I bottled it into an A5 3.0TDI after my RS4, with my mileage the fuel costs were getting silly as I was filling up 3 times per week, now it's pretty much once per week, but I do miss the car. I was tempted by the S4 Avant, but reckoned that I would have the same problem, but would be interested to know how the running costs compare to the RS?
