Hiya Toots!
(Always wanted to say that!)
There is only one figure of any relevance in this deal, and that the "price to change".
Best of luck. Beat them hard with a shitty stick.

Re: RS4 Values
Hi Toots,
I've just paid £42k for a Black, April 2001 RS4 with 2,700 miles, without Sat-Nav....unfortunately.
You should have posted this earlier before I bought mine
FYI, I sold my RS6 to get the RS4...I know it sounds strange
The RS6 is a terrific car, very fast...but, having now driven the RS4, the RS6 is pretty uninvolving once you get used to the performance, and strangely enough, because it is so drama free, you actually get used to it pretty quickly. I had mine for two months and I was surprised that I haven't mised it at all.
I hope thats of some use to you.
Cheers
Paul

Re: RS4 Values
So £41k for my 2001 with Satnav+ is pretty good then.
Re: RS4 Values
My RS4 at 24 months old with 20K miles has a guaranteed value of £42K and at 48 months with 40K £33K
The car cost £51700 new.

Re: RS4 Values
Tell me, why is that even after all we all know and discuss about the huge differnece between the dealer trade value and the screen price don't Paul and Toots just start speaking directly to each other about doing a deal.
Many life times ago I owned a leasing company, and on a car with a value of £35+ I would expect to see around 10% as a profit. The most I ever made on a single car was £9,000 on a Ferrari Testerosa sold for £98K with £50 financed.
Lets look at some numbers to show how this works....
Dealer has RS4 for sale at £41,995. His stand in value,ie what the car owes him, including any costs such as servicing, tyres, cost of finance (most dealer have a stocking loan on which they pay a quite high rate of interest) lets say is £37,000.
Mr."I want an RS4" walks in and wants to do a deal on the RS4. He is currently driving an S4 which has a TRADE value (not stand in value, since the dealer doesn't know what he will need to do to the car before he sells it,) of £14,000.
The dealer asks MR.'IWARS4' what he wants for his car and he says around £17,000 (he has seen several simialr cars at dealers for £17-20K and thinks that this is what his car is worth)
Dealer haggles over the part ex, agrees to pay £16,000 for the S4 against the RS4 and does a finance deal that will earn him between £500-£1000.
Cost to change car £26,000
Dealer Car profit £2,995
Dealer Finance Profit £500-£1000
Gross profit to the dealer of between £3495-£3995
Now look at it if you buy and sell privately:
S4 worth £14,000 trade, OK so you find a dealer who wants it you see £14,500 for it (or try to sell it privately if you can be assed for £16,000)
RS4 trade value of £37,000, you agree to give £38,000 for it so maintaining high residuals.
Cost of changing car £23,500.
It really is this simple if you make sure that you know what you are buying, and have a degree of sense about you.
Always try to be a cash buyer at a dealership. It takes out one of the variables that causes you to lose money. Always find out what the Glass's and Cap trade value for your car is before you walk into a dealership, (I know the RS4 is only listed in CAP) and never bother looking at Parkers to value your cars, you'd get a more accurate valuation out of my 3 year old
Don't be scared to accept that your pride and joy is valued at many thousands less than an identical car sitting on the dealers forecourt, just understand the dynamics of a car dealership, and use it to your advantage!

Oh yes,
and if anyone wants to test this out, I'm more than happy to broker deals so long as I can see 25% of the savings I make anyone as my fee!
