See Ya.....
MPG is one factor the, others are:
RS4 will be 4 years old in Dec - £1700 warranty would be a must
The new car is 6 months old, £47k spec for £37K with loads of tech...
5 years warranty
2 years servicing
5.9% apr finance
£500 contribution from Audi
£2600 deposit (just £900 more than warranty on RS)
I will miss the RS4 but not that much....It has been my best car so far but time for a change.
I'll report back as to what I think.....I appreciate all of the comments. It's horses for courses ......

Having had an hour in the car today to have a proper blat, I now have to disagree with this comment and will qualify....jonathonturner wrote:5 years of bordom, 2 of which are for free?
enjoy!
The B8 is a great chassis....planted and agile at the same time. Took it down my favourite 10 mile route and I was pleasantly surprised at how close it was the the RS4, I then re-did the route in my RS4 and realised only a few corners were a bit more planted in the RS4...maybe because I am used to it. Anyway, if the S4 is so close to the B7 RS4...the B8/9 RS4 will need be a cracker to justify itself.
It does 95% of what the RS4 did for me......the remaining 4% being the sound.
I will miss the noise of the RS4....and the seats....and the looks...and the steering wheel......the bose....the wheels.....but not the bills!! Technology has really moved on.....
To save on the ranting this is my own opinion, I drove the RS4 everyday and never tracked it so my benchmarks may be well away from anyone elses.
I'm glad I owned one!!!

RE: Re: RE: See Ya.....
Both good in their own right.
Was tempted by B8 S4 myself but for a weekend treat it isn't special enough, go back another generation to a B5 RS4 which is technically quite poor but boy does it have character by the bucket load.
I appreciate the technical benefits of B8 over B7 but there is more to car ownership than just being good and having gadgets and the RS cars have that 'x factor' that really gets under your skin.
However for a daily driver I'd consider the S4 though the MPG isn't as good as Audi's figure suggest according to some mag or other.
Anyway good luck and at least it isn't a Datsun

Datsun indeed!
I had a test of the new S4 before I bought my new car. I found it plenty fast enough and it is absolutely stunning inside. Much more modern than the B7 cabin IMHO. As a few people have mentioned, you'd really have to work hard to make a B8 S4 get smaller in the rear view mirror of a B7 RS4 (in the same way that you'll not easily lose a 335i).
It was a little inert for my taste though. A nice car just not terribly entertaining.
MPG was much and much the same as the V8 during the test I had so deffo wouldn't buy one expecting to lower fuel costs.

Reading Audi will have a mint Sprint Blue Avant 34k miler in a week or so.....can't bear to see what they'll sell it for based on my PX (it wasn't too bad).
New front discs and pads 1000 miles ago with all the right options....
Cheers
