Gruppe-M Intake who is running it...need your help!

Post by MugelloRS » Sat Oct 09, 2010 5:02 pm

My car threw a check engine light (lean code) after installing the gruppe-m. Also, the idle sporadically dips at low rpm, sort of like a vacuum leak. Did anyone else have this issue? I played a few times with re-positioning the MAF sensor (height) with no such luck.

Currently, the intake is off the car because I decided not to mod my car but I miss the sound. Those of you with this intake, you know what I mean. :) I'm thinking maybe I can cut off the stock MAF housing, this way the diameter of the housing stays the same hopefully drawing less air to avoid air turbulence for correct measures. Any thoughts or help will be appreciated. I wanted to give up on mods but its hard not to....

I have never had any problems wih mine, however I read about a few problems on the earlier units.

Did you cut the silicone inlet hose to the correct length as per the instructions? And is the maf sensor the correct way round?

Thanks for the reply.

What's the difference between the earlier unit vs new? Yes, I made sure the distance from the MAF sensor to the filter is 100mm and made sure the sensor is facing the right direction.

I too have problem with the GruppeM. Still waiting reply from GruppeM. I have done the everything from the instruction manual but still same problem. I think there is turbulence in the airflow.

I had no problems when I was running mine, however I did have a Generic remap uploaded at the same time.

I did read somewhere that the later models had a "tumble vane" (if you want to call it that) was put into the main trumpet to disrupt airflow.

veteq: I found the culprit of this problem to be inaccurate maf readings caused by air turbulence. The initial response from gruppe-m was to lengthen the joint hose (5mm, 10mm, 20mm) or/and adjust the maf sensor height by 5mm, 10mm. Unfortunately, this didn't work for me and didn't receive a second reply from them. My other solution was to add a flow straighthener to smooth out the air flow. Or even better, simply use the stock maf housing (cut off from air box). I read here someone did that when he was working on a custom intake set up.

I was under the impression gruppe-m was a highly regarded company but I think different now. If you do hear back from them please let me know.

sonny: I didn't know there was a possibly design change (tumble vane). Hopefully, more people can chime in.

MugelloRS: I have the same respond from GruppeM but like you said, it does not work. They are trying to blame the MAF but I told them its not and the fault is gone if I use OEM airbox. Not sure if you realize but the MAF holder is slightly larger in size than the filter side holder. It should have been one piece like the OEM air box.

sonny: Maybe your generic remap eliminate the problem...

My car was APR tuned and it didn't help.

I believe a correct size air flow straighthener will help smooth out air turbulence. Or cut off the maf housing from the stock air box to keep the diameter the same...the culprit of this issue.

Sonny, I sincerely appreciate your help...thank you.

Yes, it looks exactly the same. Currently, the intake is off my car. I was planning on not modding my car and not puruse this problem any further. In fact, I put this intake up for sale in AZ (sn silvers2k), but I might just keep it. You and I both know how amazing it sounds...:).

Sonny, Most of the people who got CEL after the installing the GruppeM are on stock ECU. I presume your APS remap gave a higher tolerance on the fuel map.
